How to Greatly Enhance Your Overall Twitter Experience

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Twitter is all the rage this year. It is becoming more unlikely that you have not at least heard someone mention it in passing. It seems as though that everyone is getting on twitter these days. People like Oprah, and Ashton Kutcher have amassed huge followings recently. And so many are finding twitter as a very valuable tool for business. If you use Twitter on the web by itself there’s already a lot of things that you can do to promote your business.  But there are several other ways that you can enhance your Twitter experience.  In this article, you are going to learn 3 ways that you can enhance your Twitter experience.First;  Use Twitter in combination with other networking sitesThis is absolutely critical.  That’s why it is listed first.  You should never place all your eggs in one basket so to speak.  You always want to have a veriety of ways to stay connected, in case something were to happen to twitter. Such as;  What if it’s down for maintenance?  What if there are just too many tweeps on at once and you keep seeing the fail whale (that’s what happens when you can’t load twiter)?  There is a service called tweetake, which allows you to download your followers, favorites, tweets, dms, everything you need to talk to your Twitter family outside of Twitter.  I suggest you download this file from tweetake daily.  Another thing you should do is invite your friends to join you on Facebook, LinkedIn or an awesome site that will keep you very connected is Friendfeed.com. It has over 50 services that you can link and keep up with all in one place.  I also recommend putting your Facebook profile on your Twitter page as your website.  That way when people follow you on Twitter, they’ll go right to your Facebook page and follow you there too.  Find an email address for your Twitter posse so you can send emails to them.  Don’t send them commercial messages unless they sign up for your email list. That’s considered spam, so don’t be a spammer.  You can send them messages that you’d send to your friends.  It’s fantastic to email your Twitter friends information that will help them with their business.  They’ll be extremely grateful to you for sending them wonderful information and it will seem more personal because you sent it right to them instead of blasting it to the whole Twitterverse! Your goal is to build what I am calling valuable Twitterships, I don’t know if anyone else has coined that one. It’s just ralationships on twitterSecond;  Use Twitter +twitwall to market your telecalls.Twitwall is an brilliant service to use to market your telecalls.  Every Twitter user gets a twitwall.  You’d use your twitwall when you have things that are more than 140 characters to post.  You can use your twitwall to promote your telecalls very easily.  You’d just post the relevant information to the twitwall and then retweet it.  Vital: Be sure to include the words please retweet in the headline when you post information about your telecall. Even though twitwall makes it simple for people to retweet your information, they won’t do it unless you tell them to most of the time.Third; Twitter + Hashtag + Tweetchat = PARTY!Another fantastic way to get people talking about you and your business is to hold a Twitter party! Twitter parties are very simple to set up.  All you have to do is make a hashtag for your party. Basically a hashtag acts a tracker for your party. Once you choose on a hashtag, next pick a date and a time.  Then start telling everyone that’s in your Twitter family about your party and question them to retweet the information for you. On the day of the party you can use tweetchat to follow everything everyone is saying about the party.  Tweetchat is awesome because once you go to the website and log in, it automatically inserts the hashtag and tells you how many characters you have left to tweet with.  It also allows you to momentarily stop the chat within the chat room so you can scroll back and see what was said before you enter the room.  It’s vital to both participate in and throw Twitter parties because it’s a fantastic way to get the word out about your business and you can meet new people that are interested in the same things that you are interested in.Twitter is a fantastic tool to use to drive traffic to your website.  These things that I’ve mentioned will only improve the amount and quality of the traffic you get to your website.

My Almost Free Twitter-based Corporate Social Media Strategy

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

What if you could reach a few million people, improve customer support, tap into an incredible wealth of customer satisfaction data, protect and enhance your brand, and obtain some positive coverage, all for under $500? But wait, thereâ??s more! Sounds like a late-night infomercial, but in fact, a minimal investment (mostly time) can help you establish a highly visible and rewarding social media outpost on Twitter.

If youâ??re trying to figure out how social media can be integrated into your corporate communications strategy, follow this simple program. Donâ??t hire expensive consultants, donâ??t spend millions of dollars on viral marketing programs, and donâ??t wait to be shown proven ROI for social media initiatives. Just roll up your sleeves, get on Twitter, be genuine, and really respond to and help consumers.

Of course there are other social networks and opportunities to use social media in your corporate communications initiatives, and Twitter hosts a relatively small audience, perhaps two million people. But online, two million people who are extremely well-versed in the use of social media tools can be a very influential audience. Their comments on your company, its willingness to engage with customers, and the quality of its customer support not only reach a potentially much larger audience, but once published, are on the web nearly forever to be retrieved via a search on your company name. If those comments are negative, wouldnâ??t you like the opportunity to respond? And if theyâ??re positive, wouldnâ??t you like to know that as well?

Iâ??m sure youâ??ve heard it said hundreds of times, that thereâ??s an online conversation going on about your company. And as much as this is a metaphorical conversation, it is also, in many social networks, forums and chat rooms, an actual conversation in which real people are sharing their experiences with your company.

I was inspired to write this piece as I watched this morning as a well known vehicle rental company come under attack on Twitter. A Twitter user with more than 1500 â??friendsâ? commented on a terrible experience involving the company. Perhaps feeling that the company didnâ??t care about his plight, he invited other Twitter users to share their negative experiences with the company, and thus was born a groundswell of negativity. The company in question had no clear presence on Twitter, and did not get involved in the conversation. Here are a few of the comments:

â??horrendous serviceâ?¦fails on many levelsâ?¦poorly maintained trucks too.â?â??I’m going to need a moving truck soon…maybe I should try another company this time aroundâ?â??abysmal customer serviceâ?â??I have had way too many problems with them – terrible equipment, oversold equipment, etc.â?To get an thought whether your company is being talked about on Twitter, go to http://www.search.twitter.com, and enter your company name. You will be able to scan, in chronological order, user comments about your company. Whether these are largely negative, positive or neutral, each is an opportunity for you to weigh in, which is perfectly legitimate to do on Twitter. And you would be remiss not to.

Itâ??s hard for me to say that they â??shouldâ? have been on Twitter, but I have to question, why not? One company after another has been in the news as they have established a presence on Twitter and started engaging one-on-one with consumers. I am not exaggerating when I say the cost of being on Twitter is under $500. Twitter membership, even for corporations, is free, but I was allowing $500 to pay for the time to have someone in corporate communications sign up, make a simple graphics backdrop for the page, complete the very brief profile, and start the conversation.

Itâ??s not that hard to do. I recently wrote on my blog about the Seven Rules for Establishing a Corporate Presence on Twitter. These are very simple guidelines for branding your Twitter account and making it clear to consumers that it is an authorized company communications vehicle. There are no barriers to Twitter entry. As I said, it costs nothing, and you do not need to make any content, but you do need to identify one or more company spokespeople who can be online periodically to respond to consumer inquiries, questions and concerns. Home Depotâ??s account is staffed by Sarah, a PR person who has agreed to â??moonlightâ? on Twitter to respond to customer comments and issues. Comcastâ??s account is staffed by its â??digital careâ? group, and jetBlueâ??s is managed by the companyâ??s corporate communications team. Surely there are one or two people in your company who are social media savvy, and connected either to your communications or customer support organizations, who can spend 30-60 minutes a day engaging with consumers, solving problems, and improving the companyâ??s reputation. Not doing so doesnâ??t seem very smart.

Free Twitter Marketing Tools – Optimizing Twitter to Get a Massive Following

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

You may have heard of an internet sensation called Twitter.  The concept of this site is simple:  update people on what you’re currently doing in one hundred forty characters or less.  You can follow people, people can follow you, you can quote what other people are saying and you can answer to what other people are saying.  Twitter essentially makes a quick paced interactive and massive community with similar interests.  So what? When you join a club or sport, you typically join because you share an interest in that area.  Likewise, you follow people on Twitter because you share a common interest.  Since there’s no limit as to how many followers you can have, you can be in contact with thousands of people with one simple update.  It gets better though.  Imagine thousands of followers in your target market because having a large number of people following you is meaningless if there is no common interest.  If you have thousands of people following you because they have an interest in network marketing, then you have struck gold. How do you leverage Twitter to make a massive following in your target market though?  How can you have thousands of followers without eating all the hours of your day?  The key is automation.  I have prepared a list of free Twitter marketing tools to aid you in building a massive following.  The three tools I will be talking about are:-Twitter Karma-Tweetree-Tweet LaterTwitter Karma is a tool that helps you maintain a balance between people you are following and people following you.  Twitter Karma allows you to sort users in different categories primarily users that you are following but they aren’t following back, and users that are following you but you aren’t following them back.  Essentially, you just check all and either click bulk follow or bulk unfollow.  Make sure to wait about ten minutes between each submission.  That’s it.  You have a excellent ratio for your following/followers.The next tool is called Tweetree.  The main thing you want to use Tweetree for is for the Retweet (RT) button and managing conversations with other users.  Remember, retweeting is simply quoting another user, and usually requires you to type everything out.   With Tweetree, there is a button when you go your mouse over a tweet and an RT button appears.  Simply click that button and hit send.  Now there is no more typing for retweets.  The second function is managing conversations.  Sometimes other users respond to your tweet, but you don’t check until later.  The time gap can lead to confusion as to what the response was referring to.  Tweetree puts a user’s response indented under your tweet so you can continue a conversation and not worry about forgetting what it was all about.Lastly, Tweet Later is for auto-pilot use.   The main benefits of using this service is to have an automated welcome message and auto follow/unfollow actions.  To edit these settings follow these steps:1.    Log in to Tweet Later2.    Click Accounts3.    Click List Accounts4.    Click EditFrom here you can edit all automation methods you want to carry out.  Make sure to check the auto welcome box and type in your welcome message.  A word of advice for typing out your welcome message:  Do not post your affiliate link.  There are many Twitter users posting affiliate links in their welcome messages and it makes interaction very impersonal.  Instead, type a friendly message thanking them for following you and link them to a place of value.  Now when I say place of value I mean a blog, Youtube channel, articles page or Facebook.  All of these are acceptable places to lead new followers to, because it builds a personal connection and not the dreaded sales pitch. If you want to rotate welcome messages, there is a link right above the text box that shows you how to do that.  You may want to rotate people going to your Facebook, blog or articles, so that’s a fantastic way to send traffic everywhere.  Next you want to check automatically follow people and check automatically unfollow people.  These two options help keep your following and follower ratio in check. That’s it.  These three free Twitter marketing tools will help you build a massive and target following to leverage your online business.  But, automated software can only do so much.  You need to interact with other users through answer messages and retweets.  Just like any business, developing relationships with people is the only way to rapidly grow your business.  By interacting with other users and applying these tools, your following will grow your Twitter following in no time.

Twitter the Election – is There a Twitter Expansion on the Horizon?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

As Democratic Sen. Joe Biden and Republican Gov. Sarah Palin prepare to square off tonight in the first Vice Presidential debate, I need to step back to a moment last week and talk about something Twitter launched for the election â?? that has the social media world stirring in its belly.

For the presidential debate last week, Twitter launched a niche application site called Twitter E08 that focused directly on the presidential election campaign in the United States. The website worked by simply filtering twitter messages (tweets) from all users by certain keywords and aggregating these messages into one page.

In addition, a user can go directly to the section on the website and send a message directly, and it is seen in the twitter timeline immediately. I like the thought of this, as does the community â?? if you head to the election page â?? you see it is constantly updating â?? the interaction is priceless, or uselessâ?¦depending who you question.

By promoting the election â?? Twitter has finally begun to reckon about â??microâ?? sites within Twitter that will not only aggregate conversations, but build out â??channelsâ?? per-say of different topics, sports, fashion, marketing, schools, and dare I say â??businessâ???

Letâ??s walk into one of those channels, oh, look, a huge transition ad for the NFL.  Oh look, now were in the football channel â?? with 543 other people talking about football. You see my point. I am not against this at all.  I am really 100% for it.  I am sure Twitter is tired of hearing criticism surrounding their business model and how they generate money.  I reckon this election is the starting point for something â??hugeâ?? twitter is considering doing.  Twitter is run by a group of 20 people, thatâ??s it!  I am sure their partner channels and VC funds are well stocked, but naturally you reckon â??largerâ?? and growth.

I know we would hear endless people complain about a new layout, if the site were to take on niche groups and starts with ads galore; but I reckon only the current twitter use would complain. Look at the people who now wish to ban the new Facebook layout â?? because they are too bone idle to see their precious applications are on the bottom toolbar â?? in static mode. Facebook was tired of seeing user pages that would just go down for miles with comments, applications, etcâ?¦this opened the door to keep everything within the â??userâ??s levelâ? â?? instead of having to scroll down 30 seconds to see what someone said about somebody else (you know you care about that!)

Either way, this election and what Twitter is â??experimentingâ?? with is just the beginning of a new style Twitter will be undergoing. You know it. I know it.  We all know it.

4 Easy Ways to Empower Twitter for Your Marketing Benefits

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Are you using Twitter to help build your online network marketing business?

If you’re involved in building a business online, you know the potential that the internet can offer. It can help you attract more leads, close sales, build your brand, build your credibility in the industry, and much more. It is vital to go where the traffic already is and use several different methods to market your business; and if you’re not engaging yourself in social networks, then you’re terribly missing out.

One fantastic new way to utilize social networking is through the use of Twitter Tweets. How can it help you and how do you go about using it to your advantage? Let’s take a quick look at Twitter and what it has to offer.

What exactly is Twitter?

Twitter is a social networking site that allows you to network with friends, family, coworkers, and everyone else in the Twitter community. It basically helps you keep up with what people are doing at all times. You simply make a small post (called a Tweet) and everyone in the Twittersphere is now up-to-date on what is going on in your life. It is a fantastic way to stay in touch with family and friends; but on a deeper level, it is an brilliant way to see natural networking and marketing benefits.

So how can you maximize Twitter to benefit both yourself and your followers?  Here are 4 simple ways to empower your Twittering for your marketing benefits:

1. Define the Outcomes You Want to Achieve

Do you want more traffic to a website? Do you want to build your image as an expert in the industry? Do you want to show your prospects who the real “you” is? Do you want to simply increase brand awareness? There are truly limitless things that you can accomplish through the use of Twitter; but your tweet activity will be more effective if you focus in on just one (or a few) objectives rather than multiple ones. Once you look at the options before you and have set your Twitter objectives, then stay disciplined with them–meaning that even though you might mix your Tweets up a bit (between personal and business), the majority of your Tweets stay on track with your main objective.

2. Provide Value to the Twittersphere & Engage in Fascinating Conversation

There are thousands of users on Twitter and it can be hard to stand out from the crowd and get noticed; so it is vital to focus on providing your followers with original and useful Tweets. Engage your followers instead of just throwing out mundane details of your life. You will have more people ‘replying’ to you, which will in turn catch the attention of others and provide you with new followers.

Ultimately it’s about adding value to the conversations that are happening on Twitter. You will become someone that people will seek out and want to interact with when you go beyond adding to the noise in the Twittersphere. Provide value, offer solutions; and remember that every Tweet counts and you are building a reputation.

3. Question Your Followers QuestionsThis can make very effective Tweets and draw many followers into active conversation with you, making a viral impact and leading to real relationships with followers.

4. Connect with as Many Twitter Users As Possible In Your Niche

“Twitter Surf” and find people in your niche that are following you and see who else they are following and the things they are Twittering about. One follower leads you to another follower and so on. To be known in your niche and build your own profile it is very vital that you are interacting with others in that same niche.

Twitter can be a powerful business building tool for your online network marketing business. Stay focused on your objective, provide value, and remain active in the Twittersphere and your social networking will boost positive results.

One social networking site that has proved to be powerful is twitter. Currently, studies have proved that twitter is one of the fastest growing website. Therefore, whether you have an offline or online business you can use social networking websites as a platform to interact with your customers and more so get feedback on your products and services.

To increase your business brand name presence, you can offer customer service and support to your target market using twitter. This is because on twitter you will have the ability to offer quick response to your customers needs and thus improve your brand image. On twitter you can monitor and respond to customer issues via tweetbeep where notifications are sent directly to your customers email address.

Eliciting feedback from customers using twitter is also simple; question your customers what they reckon about your products or services. This way you will get quick responses and also using the same platform, acknowledge their feedback.

Tweet To Grow Your Small Business

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

We all know about social media sites and how they can help you to develop your small business. The hottest in the crowd is Twitter. This site has started playing around since 2006 and have gained immense popularity due to its microblogging and mobile blogging services. You can publish text messages with up to 140 characters instantly. Thus, there is no need to write a 400 words blog post or articles to let people know about your business. You can simply write a byline and share your business updates and announcements, links, opinion through Twitter. In fact, it is beyond networking and answering your client’s queries. Be it a heavy engineering firm or building and construction company, a proper tweet can earn you a number of followers.

You can start tweeting as soon as you have open an account. But before posting any comments, links, or business information, remember that in such social media platforms you are your brand. It is you through whom your followers will come to know about your business. Sharing content that are offensive or irrelevant will not only hamper your image but also ruin your company’s image. Like any other social networking sites, your post quality plays a fantastic role on Twitter.

It is also advisable to share some personal information on Twitter. Most of the people go through similar experiences in life and people out there are always interested to know what the other did in a similar situation. It is also right about entrepreneurs. Other business owners too like to study about the various struggles that you have gone through as an entrepreneur. This makes you more likable as they can easily relate with you. So start wiring about your own experiences too.

In addition, get in-touch with new people on Twitter with similar interests. Look for relevant topics that you can tweet about. Also retweet information that you found fascinating in your own network. When you retweet one’s post, chances are high that hsmall businesse/ she will also do the same for you. This will help you both to earn a small extra exposure.

Now that you know what to tweet, the question arises why should do it? There are several social media sites that provide similar services. Then why Twitter? Well, the answer is quite simple. Though you can use other social networking sites to post your business information, Twitter has outsmarted them with its metrics and tracking features.

It is very simple to track your data on Twitter. Apart from tracking your total numbers of followers, you can also track the number of times your follower’s post were shared as well as their number of answers. In addition, Twitter enables you to track certain complex calculations like the Twitter Quality Score. With this feature you can determine whether or not a particular account is worth following. You can even track your total number of sales as well as the number of times your account is mentioned on Twitter. The feature called “URL shortener” helps you to track whenever your content appears on the site.

Tips To Get Rt’d On Twitter

â??New blog post!  10 tips to â?¦â?¦â?¦Â  Please RT!â??

Simple and simple, but not the most effective way to get your tweets retweeted.

The second one is if you are posting a link, try to include numbered lists. Everyone likes a numbered list, for example, same as I said above

â??New blog post! 10 tips to â?¦â?¦â?¦â??

This one works sometimes, but donâ??t do it all them time. Itâ??s probably best off if itâ??s only a one-off really. Just post the link. You know how curious you get when you see a link all on itâ??s own; â??Oooooooh wonder what that is?â?? Other people will be just as curious. The reason I said not to do this too much is that you may start to lose the trust of your followers.

Say thank you. Anyone who retweets one of your tweets, either thank them with a DM, or a tweet would be better, because then your followers will see their profile link. Or you could retweet one of their tweets.

Research the Twitter bots. Some people might look upon this as cheating a bit, but as long as you donâ??t do it too much, donâ??t feel terrible! Research what bots are on Twitter, such as the Facebook one for example; they will retweet most things you say, as long as they include a specific hashtag.

Curiosity. Curiosity is the last tip Iâ??m going to give you today. Imagine you are reading your tweet. How would it have to sound for you to be interested enough to click it?

I hope you found these helpful. If anyone want to share any more tips they may have, please leave a comment.
