Blogs as Modern Art

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

â??In order correctly to define art, it is necessary, first of all, to stop to consider it as a means to pleasure and to consider it as one of the conditions of human life. Viewing it in this way we cannot fail to observe that art is one of the means of intercourse between man and man.â? â?? Leo Tolstoy.

What is art? Art cannot be described as a process which produces beauty as beauty itself cannot be certain objectively. You can only guess what the aim of art is. According to Tolstoy, the aim of art is to provide pleasure, enjoyment, entertainment as well as making a relationship between the author and the â??receiverâ?. So is blogging â?? art?

History of Blogs

Blogs were first introduced as weblogs that refer to a â??serverâ??s log file.â? It was produced when web logging hit the virtual market. Since its inception in the mid-1990s, web logging gradually saturated the virtual community making the Internet a viable source of greater information.

Origin of the term â??weblogâ? is undefined. Many point to John Barger in December 1997 when he coined the term on his own blog. 2 years later, Peter Merholz broke â??weblogâ? into a phrase â??we blogâ?, thus giving birth to the word â??blogâ?. Fortuitously, this play on words ultimately took off, and â??blogâ? as a fleeting form not only became a household noun, but also as a verb. With the growth of popularity of weblogs, grew the popularity of the word â??blogâ?. Indeed, in Development 2003, the Oxford English Dictionary included the terms “weblog,” “weblogging” and â??webloggerâ? in its dictionary. Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary astonishingly confirmed â??blogâ? as the word of the year in 2004. (Wikinews,2005)

Early from the mid-1990 the number of blogs at an incredible pace, at the end of 1999, the total number of blogs was estimated to be around fifty; five years later, the estimates range from 2.4 million to 4.1 million. The site Open Diary, while not using the term blog only until recently, had only two thousand diaries by 1999; by, September 2005, it exploded to 400, 000. The Perseus Development Corporation, a consulting firm that studies internet trends, estimates that by 2007 more than 10 million blogs will have been produced. (Drezner and Farrell, â??Web of Influence.â? 2004).

Blogs as a way of expressing yourself

People who are into blogging carefully choose their words to describe their feelings, emotions and experiences. Leo Tolstoy says in his essay â??What is art?â?: â??Art is a human activity consisting in this, that one man consciously, by means of certain outdoor signs, hands on to others feelings he has lived through, and that other people are infected by these feelings and also experience them.â?

In a way, bloggers are artists. They make a relationship with their readers, as qualified writers and painters do. Blog is own space, their canvas, their book, where they can share their thoughts, feeling, thoughts with others, where they can give and receive information.

As with art, you can write anything you want in a blog, but there are thing needed to be taken into account:

â?¢ You should make your blog appealing, informative so that it gives rise to readersâ?? thoughts and feelings.

â?¢ Make a touch beneficial for the readers. Give your blogs some feature content.

â?¢ â??Simplicity is the final achievement. After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art.â? Frederic Chopin. Avoid being complicated in your blog. The more complicated the blog is â?? the less it is art.

Blogs as Modern Art

So what is a blog? Is blogging art? Blog is persons own space in the Internet, his orchestra where he conducts his symphonies, his paper where he writes his essays, his canvas where he paints his masterpieces, in a word â?? his space where he makes. What is the purpose of the Artist? To make, to communicate the concepts of morality.

Unfortunately not every blog can be categorized as art. Blogs must be comprehensible and understandable. If any unintelligible blog or as any incomprehensible expression of though is to be called â??artâ?, then the meaning of â??artâ? will be lost. Blogs must have the form and content which is are unity with the feeling and thoughts which they represents. Blogs that shallow, unsophisticated, awkward, artificial, exaggerated, grandiose, or banal are not art.

Tolstoy suggests that professionalism kills art; it causes the art to become fake and insincere. As long as blogs are kept original, personal and sincere they can be described as art, modern art.

â??Generally art is a (product of) human activity, made with the intention of stimulating the human senses as well as the human mind; by transmitting emotions and/or thoughtsâ?(Wikipedia, 2008). Blog is a fantastic way to implement this activity online.

All in all, blogs are modern art, as long as you keep them personal, original, trustworthy and smart. Blogs are your web space and you have all the tools and thoughts to make your own masterpiece!

How DoFollow Gov Blogs Can Increase SEO & Pagerank

Monday, March 8th, 2010

The general consensus among qualified internet marketers contends that .edu and .gov links carry addition weight compared to ordinary .com links.  Itâ??s simple to see why search engines trust these types of sites given their increased authority.  The goal here is to participate in blogs and forums to increase your backlinks and thus your ranking.  In this post Iâ??ll be covering the relevant challenges, tips and benefits to .gov blog commenting.

You can easily find a slew of government blogs by typing into the Google search bar: â??site: .gov blogâ? or more specifically â??site: .gov business blogâ?.  This command tells Google to search for all the blog websites and end in .gov and that relate to business.  This simple tip would be fantastic if you just wanted to read government blogs for leisure.  Trust me, that is not me.  As  marketers we want to participate in blog or forum commenting primarily for backlinks which in turn will boost our search engine ranking.

The main challenge and time-consuming task is finding .gov sites that are dofollow in nature.  Dofollow is just internet slang for a site not containing the â??nofollowâ? tag in its source code.  You can find this out a couple ways.  I like using the SearchStatus Firefox add-on which can involuntarily highlight in red a pageâ??s nofollow links.  The manual way is to review the source code by pressing control-U and then control-F to search for the term â??nofollowâ?.  Finding  a nofollow tag inside the anchor text essentially means that your .gov site passes on no pagerank or â??link juiceâ? to your site and thus no value in Googleâ??s eyes.

You can individually sort through the thousands of .gov sites looking for the dofollow ones.  Or you can review the fleeting list I included on my blog.  These are some of the oneâ??s that Iâ??ve used lately and that work.  But, I must caution you.  Spammers and comment generating computer programs should stay away.  Many of these sites still have comment moderators that can easily delete your comment.  While the topic may not identically match your given niche, be sure to demonstrate a personal, genuine touch.  Giving your trustworthy opinion on a topic instead of leading with your affiliate link is the general rule of thumb.

Most of sites require registration first.  Make a profile and a signature file (for comments) containing your web address.   Include your link in comments by using anchor text or your signature file. You can confirm your dofollow backlinks by referencing the source codes which omit the nofollow tags.  Stay my blog and search â??.govâ? to watch a tutorial video.

Why Trackbacks are Useful for Blogs

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

If not, thatâ??s alright, as most people donâ??t reasonably know how trackbacks work and why they are useful for a blog. In this newsletter, weâ??re going to go over trackbacksâ??what they are, how they work, why they are vital to blog traffic, and how to get more trackbacks. After youâ??ve read this, youâ??ll know practically everything there is to know about trackbacks.

What are trackbacks?

The concept of trackbacks is a bit hard to clarify. So weâ??ll use an example to clarify it in the best way possible.

OK, say you see a fantastic blog post on a further personâ??s blog and want to link to it on your blog. You could do this the ancient-fashioned way by manually putting a link on your site to that blog. But, if you do it this way, the person whose blog post you are between to wonâ??t know that you are between to them unless you tell them.

This is where trackbacks come in. A trackback is a program which will say the owner of a blog when one of their posts has been linked to at a further blog.

How do they work?

A blog that has a trackback system set up will have a link at the bottom of every blog post. This link will say a touch like â??Blog This!â? Anyone who clicks the link can then place a link to that blog post on their site. The person who posted the original blog will then be told via email that their blog posting has been linked to. Additionally, the link that was clicked(â??Blog This!â?) will exchange to â??Trackbacksâ?. From that point forward, the â??Trackbacksâ? link will keep footstep of how many people have chosen to blog about that particular post. So after the first trackback, it will say â??Trackbacks: 1â?. The number of trackbacks recorded will be updated as they occur.

Why are trackbacks vital to blog traffic?

The simple answer is that trackbacks are vital because they increase awareness of your blog. Trackbacks also make a blog seem more credible. After all, people have to reckon your posts are excellent enough to be trackbacked.

Anytime a person makes a trackback on your blog, they make a post on their own blog about your blog. This, in turn, lets their readers know about your blog. Chances are, their readers will want to stay your blog to see what the huge deal is. If they see a touch on your blog that they like, theyâ??ll keep coming back for more, which means youâ??ll have a total new fanbase of readers. That means more traffic for your blog.

Can you imagine what would happen if 5 different bloggers trackbacked a post on your blog? Depending on how standard their blog is, thatâ??s potentially as much as hundreds of new readers for your blog! Pretty incredible, right?

Also, every trackback made, assuming it is a legitimate one (and some trackbacks are spam, especially if they are there only to link to a further site) adds credibility to your blog. Blogs with high amounts of trackbacks look credible because lots of people like the posts enough to trackback them.

How can I increase the number of trackbacks I get?

The simplest and best way to increase trackbacks is to frequently post. If you post frequently (2-3 times a week), people will have reasonably a few posts that they can trackback. But, it is vital to make sure that your posts are of a excellent feature. Feature blog posts are those that people can relate to and are simple to read. If you post a long dull rant, people probably wonâ??t want to trackback that. But if you post a decent sized rant that is entertaining (and that people are likely to agree with), youâ??ll get trackbacked.

The number of trackbacks you get is perfectly dependent on the number of visitors your blog receives and how frequently you are able to make feature posts. If youâ??ve got a excellent amount of visitors and write excellent blog posts, youâ??ll get trackbacks.

Trackbacks are a wonderful thing for every blog. You are able to know when your blog posting has been posted about at a further blog, plus you potentially gain more visitors. Itâ??s a win-win situation for you!
