Domain age factor in Search Engine Optimization

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

The age of a domain affects search ranking is known to everyone who is actively a part of SEO service. Because of this reason many websites have preferred to buy ancient domain names in order to be benefited from the aging. This is not a terrible thought at all especially if the domain bought is relevant to the sites theme and the new site being built contains feature content. One of the many factors in Google’s search engine algorithm is the age of a domain name. In a small way, the age of a domain gives the appearance of longevity and therefore a higher relevancy score in Google. Driven by spam sites which pop up and die off quickly, the age of the domain is usually a sign whether or not a site is yesterday’s news or tomorrow’s standard site. We see this in the world of business, for example. While the novelty that may go with a new store in town brings a fleeting burst of initial business, people tend to trust a business that has been around for a long time over one that is groundbreaking new. The same is right for websites. But spammers are permanently there to exploit every loophole they could find. Then using even this practice and use the ancient domain is for nothing more than a link farm. Spammers usually resort to link farms because even though aged domains are excellent lots of links carry more weight in getting a higher ranking. Obviously search engines despise this tactic and have been trying and are still trying to find ways to combat these link farms both ancient and new.Microsoft has been trying to combat this problem by looking not only at the age of the domain and the number of sites between to it but also the age of the domain of those sites. What this means is that even if link farms may get lots of inbound links those links wouldn’t hold as much weight as links from older and more sound sites since most of the sites that join link farms are new ones. MSN Live Search factors in not just the domain age of your own page but the domain age of the pages between to you as well. What this means is that even amassing a large amount of links is no longer enough if search engines deem those links are low feature links. Two things that are considered in the age of a domain name are: The age of the website and the part of time a domain have been registered. On the other hand, what this means for ordinary sites is that it will make it a bit harder to do link building since we need to get more links from older sites. Add to the that the relevance of the site and all those factors what it simply means is that organic link building is making more and more significance since search engines are finding better ways to determine which sites are really offering a touch of worth and not.For more details please stay http://www.123-seo.com

TIPS FOR BUYING DOMAIN NAMES

Part: Shorter domain names are better if the domain name is going to be typed-in evenly (brandable domains, mass-market domains, major websites). A shorter domain means reduced risk of typo errors, simpler memorability, quicker type-ins, and more flexibility in promoting the domain. For these reasons, most businesses who can meet the expense of it buy a domain of five characters or less. Two and three character domains are the choice of major corporations (GE.com, AA.com, ML.com, AOL.com, MSN.com, etc…), and come with a price tag to match. At the other extreme, an informational site that receives most of its traffic from search engines will do fine with a domain of two or even three words. DOMAIN NAMES

Previous to buying a domain name, you should consider the following:

Country-specific or international: If your business is only committed in a single country or if you want to target buyers in a specific country, it may be adequate to use a country-specific extension such as .us, .co.uk, or .ca. If you’d like to appeal to a global audience, it is best to choose a generic extension such as .com, .biz, or .info.

Importance of Keywords: If search engines are a major source of traffic to your site, make sure that your domain includes one or more of your principal keywords—this can help you get a excellent ranking on these terms. Also some buyers are looking for some high searched keywords, not just any kind of name. If you have domains with high searched keywords, you will apeal to a higher buying audience.

Commercial or informational: If you intend to sell harvest on your site, it is vital to convey a qualified image. Usually, this means a fleeting, brandable .com domain name without hyphens or numbers. If your site is informational only, consider a .info or .org extension.

Target User Group: Different domain names will appeal to different groups. For example, a B2B site will generally do best with a descriptive domain name so that a visitor immediately knows what the site is about (EX: Naming.com, Corporation.com). A mass-audience B2C site will generally do better with a memorable, brandable domain name (EX: Yahoo.com, Amazon.com, Google.com).

Risk for Traffic Diversion: Choosing the incorrect domain name can result in thousands of lost visitors due to mistypings. To reduce this risk, avoid hyphens, numbers, misspellings, and exotic extensions. People should be able to figure out the domain’s spelling from the way it is pronounced: eg, “yahoo” or “amazon” is simple to spell, but u-websites.cc or kool4ts.net will tend to leak a lot of traffic. If in doubt, register or buy all possible spellings of the name.

What Is An Expired Domain?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

To know expired domains, and their significance, an understanding of the difference between a domain and a website is required.
A excellent analogy is to liken a domain to a company telephone number, and a website to a company office. People can use a telephone to penetrate a company telephone number to call up the company and place orders, in the same way that they can use an internet browser to penetrate a domain to look at the company website and place orders.
With the telephone, the company pays the telephone company. If they don’t pay then their telephone gets cut off, and after a while their phone number gets reassigned.
This is similar to domain names. A company will pay to register a domain for a specific period of time – normally 1 or 2 years. The company can then pay again to renew the registration for a further set period. If the company stops paying, then the domain expires and becomes available to be registered by anyone else.
Imagine you owned a company where telephone orders were an vital part of your business. Now imagine one of your local competition goes out of business – your orders would jump if you could divert the telephone callers from the competitors telephone number to your own number.
This is the same with domains – if a domain expires it can be re-registered and set up so that anyone that enters the expired domain into their internet browser would involuntarily get re-directed to your website. The increase in visitor numbers for such a simple procedure can make researching expired domains very worthwhile, and reasonably possibly very lucrative.
So you can see that some expired domains can become very valuable for the relevant companies. Those domains that have a high number of visitors, and matching harvest, can become very required after.
A total new market has opened up dealing in domains. The better known part of the domain market doesn’t deal so much with expired domains, but high value domains in their own right, such as business.com, or sex.com. These domains rarely become available, and when they do the prices make them out of reach for most people.
A lesser known part of the domain market deals in expired domains. If you can find a domain that’s about to expire, and the domain receives lots of visitors, then you can try to re-register it. Once you have successfully registered the expired domain you will have several options – you could place adverts on that domain, or you could build a new website on that domain, or you could place forward it for sale. As mentioned above, some companies may be willing to pay a lot of cash for a matching domain that will complement their website.
I hope this article has helped clarify the significance of expired names. If you are interested in finding out more, there are several sources of information on expiring domains on the internet. After all, the internet is based on domains. You should take some time to look and see what’s on place forward – expired domains could verify to be very lucrative for you.

Casual Friday: Putting the ‘Video’ in Video Games

This week we tune out with more free TV, watch some classic full-motion video games, and celebrate 13-plus years of commanding and conquering the world.

In our ongoing efforts to celebrate slack, I’ve found a few fantastic new ways to kill what small free time you reckon you have this weekend and beyond. Well, what are you waiting for?

You Oughta Be in Pictures

blogging, blogger,blogspot,make cash from blog

It’s simple to draw comparisons between movies and games, but video game makers really aspired to be like huge-time movie studios not too long ago. A small over 10 years back, entire soundstages loaded with actors, sets, and camera crews filmed full-motion video (FMV) for games. Why even bring that up? Well, this week marks the release of Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath on the PC. I’ll get to that game soon enough. During its run of 13-plus years, the C&C series has become known for cheesy full-motion video acting–and the real-time strategy part, of course. Now, the newest game is out, and FMV is back, recorded in HD. That means you can see semifamous actors struggle in the high-def focus wondering why they agreed to read from the script.

(Yeah, we all know the an$wer to that.)

This got me thinking that a name should place together a proper tribute to some of the “greatest” FMV performances to ever grace a CD-ROM. So, without further ado…

My Top Five FMV Game Appearances (click the links for more videos from the games):

5. Mark Hamill (and a total cast full of people such as Malcolm McDowell, John Rhys-Davies, and…hmmm…Ginger Lynn Allen) in Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger. Honorable mention for the huge Muppet-like costumes.

4. The sci-fi detective series Tex Murphy, featuring…a cast of people you probably didn’t know. The acting was excellent enough in trying to ape the total noir vibe. And to a degree, it worked.

3. Command & Conquer: Red Alert (this clip starring Albert Einstein’s stand-in). To me, Red Alert provided both fantastic gameplay and many memorable moments off the front line, thanks to the video clips. Some were intentionally cheesy, some not, but the huge surprise is that they were really decent. Crazy, I know.

2. Christopher Walken (!!!) in Ripper. Christoper Walken can be himself, reading the phone book, and I’d watch it. Place him in a video game, and that’s magic on a disc.

1. The infamous Night Trap “starring” Dana Plato and the refugees from some horrible 1980s slasher movie. A treat: You can see the total game as a couple of painfully long movie clips if you really despise yourself. Or, if you consider yourself only a minor glutton for punishment, try the first 9 minutes on for size.
