How Twitter Hummingbird Can Automate Your Follow Process
Monday, May 17th, 2010Twitter is the newest “newest & greatest” fad in the internet marketing world. It allows for a very simple opportunity to send your message to thousands and thousands of people instantly. The trick is that you have to get a very large number of people following you (and hence, seeing your message) for Twitter to make an impression.
Lets face it, if you’ve only got 1,000 people following you & you send out an place forward that gets a 2% click through rate… huge whoop, you just got 20 clicks. Who cares?
The most common method of growing your twitter following is to follow mass amounts of people, and a certain percentage will follow you back.
The two most common ways of following people are:
a) Navigate to a chief in your market, look at their followers, and manually click the “follow” button next to each one of them
b) Have one of your outsourced minions do the above
Those two ways are ineffective. If you do it yourself, you’re spending a lot of your own time doing monkey work. It’s not fun. It’s not valuable. And if you rely on an overseas outsourcer to do this for you, they won’t permanently make the best decisions on whose followers to follow.
This is where Twitter Hummingbird will help. The software opens up & logs into one of your Twitter financial statement. You navigate to a name’s followers and click “follow all.” That’s it. Done. The Hummingbird client will keep following until you tell it to stop, or until you hit one of the Twitter soft caps.
There are two other areas where Hummingbird is very useful:
1) Mass unfollows – you need to do this honestly evenly so that your ratio is within the 110% soft cap. Currently, there’s a free tool called Twitter Karma that can do this for you, but Twitter Karma will only unfollow 70-80 people at a time… which makes a large unfollow very time consuming and cumbersome. Since Hummingbird doesn’t use the Twitter API (it logs frankly into your account instead), you can just press the “unfollow all” button, and it’ll take care of all your dirty work for you with no effort on your part.
2) Protected VIP’s – evenly, you’ll want to follow people on Twitter who will NOT follow you back. Most commonly, this will be celebrities or leaders in your market who you do not know personally. If you’re using a tool like Twitter Karma to do your mass unfollows, you’d have to manually look through your list & uncheck these VIP’s to prevent them from getting unfollowed. This is a further huge chore. Hummingbird solves the problem by allowing you to make a “protected VIP list” – once you add a name to this list, they’ll get skipped over when you do a mass unfollow through the tool.
So if you’ve got an aggressive follow/unfollow strategy on Twitter, Hummingbird will make your life much simpler for the above reasons.
But, that being said, there are 3 areas where Hummingbird could stand to improve.
a) No Mac Version – it’ll still work on a Mac, but you have to run it through Parallels or VM Firmware. That’s not ultimate. Maybe they’ll come out with a Mac version ultimately, but for now, it’s only PC based.
b) No hashtag support – it would be fantastic if you could tell it to follow people based on hashtag use. This is not an option right now; the only follow method is to follow a further Twitter user’s existing followers.
c) Can’t use it as your main Twitter client – its too slow and clunky. Even if that doesn’t really topic, since you’d be doing all your tweeting either frankly from twitter.com or Peep Deck, or whatever your favorite tool is.
“Do Follow” Blogs | SEO Services | SEO Traffic Spider
Monday, December 28th, 2009Do Follow blogs are those that allow the readers to write their comments on them. As against them, there are No Follow blogs that prevent the residency of comments.
While some blog sites allow the readers to place forward their comments irrespective of their feature, there are others such as Wordpress that do not allow that. This is done by appending HTML attributes called ‘Do Follow” or “No Follow” to the blogs according to their policies.
How to identify the “Do Follow” blogs?
If you want to make creative, informative and useful comments on a blog, there is a simple way to identify the “Do follow” blogs.
Just hit on the View button on the browser page of the blog post and click on the ‘source’ from the drop down menu. It will open up the source code of the blog post. Then you can use the Search or Find function to see if it has rel=’outdoor’ term near any comment. If you find one, it is a Do Follow blog. If you find the term rel=’outdoor nofollow’ or rel=’nofollow’, it means you cannot make any comments.
Advantages of Do Follow Blogs
There are several advantages of Do Follow blogs. When you write unique, informative and useful content in a blog, it tends to inspire admiration or disagreement in the readers who are usually encouraged to express their opinions by commenting upon it.
They may make some references to other relevant content either in their own blogs or in the blogs of others by providing links for further reading. This is how it should be. This is one way to widen the area of knowledge or discussion on the subject of the blog.
A further advantage lies in the optimization of the blog from the search engine’s perspective. The comments make back links for the commentators’ blogs. This kind of inter-commenting builds up an interactive community of bloggers on a particular niche or subject and a network of connecting links that are helpful for all the participants.
Unfortunately this kind of commenting has degenerated into a kind of spamming for promoting the websites for search engine optimization. The readers of the blog, instead of making any creative and useful comments, just add some inane words followed by links to their own blogs. This may be called artificial link building.
Some webmasters have urban software that can find out the blogs of your niche. All you need to do is to fill up the search bar with the niche words or phrase and you get a list of blogs in your niche. Some software even provide comment templates which can be to the top up in the comment areas to get the back links for SEO purpose.
While the “No Follow” attribute prevents needless seoing of useless content or spamming, it also prevents the publication of genuine and creative comments. Some adventurous souls have found plugins to dodge even Wordpress HTML commands for No Follow.
What is needed, therefore, is that instead of installing No Follow attributes, the blogger community should encourage its members to desist from spamming and contributing only informative and useful content in their comments.
At the same time, the robots of the search engines, too, have become more sensitive to link harvesting and blacklist the sites whose webmasters resort to such unhealthy practice of link building.
7 Rules Every Business Owner Should Follow When Posting on Forums
Thursday, December 24th, 2009Many business owners have taken to posting on forums to market their harvest, air force, or web site. Even if online forums are a fantastic way to spread word about a business, the act of posting on forums can backfire if it isn’t done correctly. There have been many business owners who have had to learn this lesson about forums the hard way. You can save yourself the grief they have experienced by following the seven golden rules of posting on forums.
#1 Post to Forums Evenly
Posting on forums evenly is a excellent thought. Members of the forums you frequent will take you and your web site more seriously if you are an committed member of the community.
#2 Only Post to Forums When You Have A touch to Say
Even if posting on forums on a fixed basis is a excellent thought, you don’t want to look like a spammer. In other words, you shouldn’t post on forums unless you have a touch valuable to add to the conversation.
#3 Refrain from Posting on Forums When You Are Mad
There are some people out there who take fantastic pleasure in infuriating other people on web site forums. These people are sometimes known as forum trolls, web site trolls, or Internet trolls. They like to spread discord and start fights by posting on forums. Even if it can be tempting to respond to a web site troll in the heat of the moment, you should avoid posting to forums when you’re mad. It’s too simple say a touch that you will regret later.
#4 Mention Your Web Site in Relevant Posts
Even if it is ok to post about your web site or your harvest when posting on forums, you should make sure you do so in relevant posts. If your web site, harvest, or air force have nothing to do with the topic at hand, don’t bring them up.
#5 Promote Your Web Site in Forums That Allow Signatures
If you’re shy or if you are having difficulty mentioning your website when posting on forums, you can permanently include a link to your web site in your forum signature. Most forums allow users to have signatures at the bottom of posts. Some will even allow you to include a logo, photo, or description of your business.
#6 Try Not To Sound Like a Peddler When Posting to Forums
Posting on forums is a fantastic way to market your web site, harvest, or air force. At the same time, you don’t want to make it too obvious to everyone else on the forums. If you sound like a peddler instead of a real person, people will feel an automatic aversion to you.
#7 Remember That Posting on Forums Is a Privilege
Posting on forums is a privilege that is granted by the web site that hosts the forums. If you disobey the rules that have been established by the web site for posting on forums, it is highly likely that you will be kicked off the forums and not allowed back.
Worlds Oldest Blogger Blazes a Path for Others to Follow
Saturday, December 5th, 2009Right to the last the oldest blogger in the world was making entries. Olive Riley, of Broken Hill, Australia, died peacefully in July, at a fabulous 108 years-ancient. Though she didn’t have the strength to get out of bed, she was still managed to peck away at the keyboard of her computer. “It doesn’t require much strength to be a blobber,” said Olive.
The Life of Riley, expected more than a million hits in the 18 months it was live. Olive was the only resident in the retirement home to operate a website and a ‘blob’. A filmmaker of a documentary on the life and times of Olive Riley, Mike Rubbo said, “Olive was introduced to blogging by and an older friend who had taken up blogging.”
Unfortunately Olive did not have the strength to speak on a US talk show, when invited to do so, though her fans came from all over the world.
Perhaps we all take ourselves too seriously, along with our Google rating and the number of hits our blob gets. Maybe we could learn some education from Olive.
Previous to she dropped off to sleep, Olive liked to do her thinking. Perhaps this was the key to her success. Some experts (whoever they may claim to be), say our brain works sharper and better at night than during the day. Perhaps like Olive, we would be more successful if we ‘blobbed’ at night. Or at least got our thoughts and motivation for blogging, in the night hours (which is a touch a lot of us do).
What would your results be if you blogged every week for the next thirty years? Olive made 70 entries on her life experiences, in just eighteen months. Experiences that covered two World Wars, a world depression, the advent of motor cars and large commercial planes, electricity and the exciting world of computers. Olive was also employed as a cook on a station in outback Queensland and a barmaid in Sydney.
Now you are a lot younger more energetic than Olive, so say you write 5 blogs a week, for 50 weeks of the year. That is a total of 250 per year, or 2500 in 10 years, 5000 in 20 years, and 7500 in 30 years. That’s around 2,250,000 words.
What if each of your blogs expected a mere 500 hits? That would be a total of 3,750,000 hits in 30 years. What if you could score an average income of just $1 per blog? You would become a $3.75 millionaire in just a fleeting thirty years. Of course you would have the cash out at interest during that time so maybe that would make you a???
So what’s in this for you? Don’t ever quit. Most people give up just when it is about to get going. You never know when you’re once in a lifetime Blue Moon Opportunity will bring home the bacon, (or is that meant to be the champagne).
