Wind Energy Generator: Exposed

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

Wind energy generator: An explanation
Among the various sources of renewable energy, wind is one of the most standard ones. The flow of wind that earth receives is single-minded by the uneven nature of the planet’s surface, the planetary rotations, the varying propensities of heat captivation at different atmospheric levels, and the planet’s varying vegetation types. Even the oceans and sea-bodies can influence wind flows on earth. Motion energy is usually generated from the movement of the air. The former can then be harnessed to generate a mechanical power, called wind energy. A wind energy generator (like a wind turbine or a wind mill) is such a device that can really process this energy of motion.
Wind energy generators: Their practice of working
Wind mills and wind turbines are the two most evenly used wind energy generators that can generate electricity or mechanical energy. Electricity generation from wind energy is accomplished by wind turbines. Wind mills, on the other hand, are used to produce mechanical power from wind resources. Events like water pumping and corn grinding can be performed by using this mechanical energy. Wind turbines are, but, more standard devices, since they use the newest sophisticated techniques. An thought of the relative cost-saving nature and efficiency levels of the two systems require a deeper study of these equipments.
How do wind turbines function? The turbines generally have a rotor, to which two (or, at times, three) blades are affixed. Then, the rotor with the blades is connected to the main shaft. The latter, when connected to a generator, can make it spin, so generating electrical power. Also, wind flows are less intermittent and have higher velocities at heights of around 30 meters (or, 100 feet). Hence, in order to obtain a sizeable output, a wind turbine needs to be set up at such heights. At the other end, we have wind mills, the performance and efficiency levels are single-minded by the number of their blades only. More energy can be obtained by a greater number of blades. A minimum of 15 miles per hour (mph) of wind velocity is required for satisfactory performance of the wind mills. Wind pumps and tjaskers are, in turn, two types of wind mills – classified on the basis of purpose they serve. People can benefit from the water that can be pumped out by wind pumps; it can also used for drinking by cattle. Again, for bringing out water from locations requiring low heads, drainage wind mills, like tjaskers, are used. The patterns of wind flow, unique requirements of an area as well as the final usage of the wind energy determines which of the wind energy generators are more well-organized and involves less expenditure. Thus, a detailed study of the systems is called for.
It cannot be overlooked that wind energy is one of the fastest developing energy resources all over the world. Wind resources, unlike other square power plants, do not pollute the atmosphere. This factor is extremely advantageous, since the greenhouse gases that are released by the fossil fuel (like coal or natural gas) plants can produce acid rains that can adversely affect the different atmospheric levels. There are no chances of depletion in the stock of wind energy either. Nor are any expenditure need to be incurred for acquiring the wind resources for these systems. All these factors contribute to the fantastic overall popularity of the wind energy generating plants. Fiscal advantages can also be obtained from the usage of these systems, since only a small fraction of the land taken on lease for installing wind energy systems are really occupied by these units. Thus, farming can be carried on the rest of the land. Renting out this land area to the owners of the wind power units, by the farmers, is also common. The sites that suit the functioning of these systems ideally are located on rural ranch areas. Wind resources can be easily renewed as well.
The ever-improving modern techniques are expected to eliminate any minor disadvantages that the wind energy systems might have. In the current, environmentally conscious and constantly developing world, wind energy is indeed a viable energy resource.
There are numerous finance-related advantages of a wind energy generator. The latter positively affects the environment as well. Thus, you should ideally have such a system installed in your home. An education manual makes this job greatly simpler. A manual would cover all the necessary topics, ranging from the steps to set up the system, the availability of free batteries and relatively low-cost parts of the system, the wiring patterns of the latter, where the generator should be installed within the house for best results. Safety guidelines are also clarified in detail in such a training manual too.

How to Build a Blog With WordPress

Tired of toying with the puny tools that cookie-harvester blog air force provide? Follow the steps in this simple guide to install a WordPress blog on your own domain and personalize your Web presence.

blogging, blogger,blogspot,make cash from blog

If blogging is all about self-expression, why do so many blogs look so blah?

Limitations of free blog sites; click for enlarged image. Most beginner “blahgs,” it seems, are generated using free air force whose customization options are meager at best. But you can break the tedium and supercharge your Weblog by installing your own blogging software and customizing it as you like. You’ll control how your site looks and functions–and when you’re finished, you’ll have a distinctive-looking blog that you can easily update to keep it fresh and functional.

blogging, blogger,blogspot,make cash from blog

Dozens of fantastic blogging tools are available, and PC World has rated several of them. Among the most standard and versatile of these is WordPress. You can easily scale it to your needs, so it can handle a basic family blog or a qualified blog or news site with copy aplomb. The newest version, WordPress 2.5, offers photo gallery support, powerful media management options, multiple file uploading, a new look, and more. And because it supports a host of plug-ins and widgets, you can quickly introduce bonus features as needed.

blogging, blogger,blogspot,make cash from blog

I’ll clarify how to get started with the installation, how to customize your blog, and how to make posts. If you just want to dabble with a free, hosted WordPress site, stay WordPress.com; But if you want to take full control of WordPress’s powerful content management and site design features, including your own personal domain name, you’ll need the WordPress software (note that the free software is available at WordPress.org, not at WordPress.com) and a Web hosting account to install it on. Using the WordPress software, you’ll be able to exchange a multitude of settings to craft your own unique, simple-to-manage site.

What You’ll Need

To get started with your WordPress blog, you’ll need four or five basic things.

#

A Web hosting account with PHP version 4.3 and MySQL version 4.0 or later enabled.

#

A MySQL database to store your blog’s data in. You’ll make this during the WordPress installation process.

#

A text editor, such as Notepad (on Windows) or Text Edit (on the Mac). A simple text editor produces better results than a full-blown word processor such as Microsoft Word.

#

An FTP client, such as FileZilla for Windows or CyberDuck for Mac, to simplify and accelerate the process of uploading the WordPress installation files to your hosting service.

#

An image editor, though optional, can be very helpful if you want to make your own custom themes. One excellent, free option is The GIMP (that is, the GNU Image Manipulation Program), which includes many features that rival Adobe Photoshop provides, minus the price tag.

Install WordPress

Rename ‘wp-config-sample.php’; click for enlarged image. WordPress requires PHP version 4.3 or higher, and MySQL version 4.0 or higher. These tools allow WordPress to do scripts and manage databases that instantly propagate your Web page. Check with your Web host to confirm that it supports these pieces and that they are installed successfully; the vast majority of hosting companies place forward these features as part of their standard air force.

At the heart of every WordPress blog is a MySQL database that contains all of its posts and settings. It’s a excellent thought to set up this database on your host server previous to you start working with individual WordPress files. That way you can customize your configuration file previous to uploading it, which is a significant time saver.

To make the database, log into your hosting service’s control panel–cPanel, phpMyAdmin, Plesk, or whatever the interface may be. Somewhere in the main control panel, you should see a listing for MySQL databases. My host uses cPanel, so I clicked the MySQL Databases icon, typed in a name for my new database–’wordpress’–and clicked Make Database. I also typed in a new user–’blog’–and password, and then clicked Make User. You can choose whatever names you like for your database and user, but your process should be similar to mine.

If you haven’t by now, you should download the free WordPress software to your computer and extract the files onto your desktop. All of them should be contained in a folder labeled ‘wordpress’. Within the wordpress folder, locate the file named ‘wp-config-sample.php’ and rename it wp-config.php. Then open this file in a plain-text editor (such as Notepad on Windows or TextEdit on a Mac), and replace ‘putyourdbnamehere’, ‘usernamehere’, and ‘yourpasswordhere’ in the file with your database name, your user name, and your password, respectively. Leave the other formatting–such as spaces and single quotes–intact.

Now upload the WordPress files–excluding the outer wordpress folder itself–to the root directory of your host account. You’ll probably want to use one of the FTP programs mentioned earlier under “What You’ll Need” to go everything swiftly, instead of pursuing the click-gray method of doing everything within a browser-based control panel.

Internet Lenders to Pay $1 Million to Descend Complaint

A group of Internet payday lenders agrees to descend FTC charges that it harassed customers.

blogging, blogger,blogspot,make cash from blog

Grant Yucky, IDG News Service

Mon, 21 Sep 2009 13:10:17 -0700

A group of Internet payday lending companies that allegedly threatened customers who didn’t make payments with arrest and called customers at work and swore at them has agreed to pay US$1 million to descend charges from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and the state of Nevada.

blogging, blogger,blogspot,make cash from blog

The FTC, in a November complaint in U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada, charged the companies with using unfair and unrepresentative collection tactics.

The companies told consumers that the loans had to be repaid by their next payday with a fee ranging from US$35 to $80, or the loans would be extended involuntarily for an extra fee debited from consumers’ bank financial statement until the loans were repaid, the FTC said. Some customers voicing complaints on Internet sites have reported being charged hundreds of dollars in late fees for a small loan.

blogging, blogger,blogspot,make cash from blog

The payday loan companies falsely threatened consumers with arrest, falsely claimed that consumers were legally obligated to pay the debts, threatened to take legal action they could not take, repeatedly called consumers at work using abusive and profane language, and improperly told consumers’ purported debts to third parties, the FTC said Monday.

The companies also allegedly disastrous to make required written disclosures to consumers, such as the amount financed, the once a year percentage rate, payment schedule, total number of payments, and any late payment fees, in violation of the U.S. Truth in Lending Act, the FTC said.

The agreement order, approved last week, requires the defendants to pay $970,125 to the FTC and $29,875 to the state of Nevada. The order prohibits them from falsely claiming that consumers may be arrested or imprisoned for fault to pay debts, that they are legally obligated to pay the full amount of a purported debt, and that for failure to pay they are subject to lawsuit, spasm of property, or garnishment of wages.

The defendants also are barred from repeatedly calling consumers’ work places, using obscene or threatening language toward consumers and third parties, and disclosing the existence of consumers’ purported debts to third parties.

The order also includes provisions relating to alleged violations of Nevada law. The order prohibits the defendants from violating Nevada state consumer protection law when conducting business from the state or when selling goods or air force to Nevada residents, including fault to be properly licensed, fault to provide notice and disclosure of all material facts, and fault to comply with any state or federal law in selling goods or air force.

The settling corporate defendants are Cash Today and The Heathmill Village, both registered in the U.K.; The Harris Holdings, registered in Guernsey; Leads Global. Waterfront Investments, ACH Cash, HBS Air force, Rovinge International, and two dissolved companies. Each were doing business as Cash Today, Route 66 Funding, Global Financial Air force International, Interim Cash, and Huge-Int.

The settling individual defendants are Aaron Gershfield and Ivor Gershfield. A phone call Monday to Route 66 Funding went unanswered.

Casual Friday: Putting the ‘Video’ in Video Games

This week we tune out with more free TV, watch some classic full-motion video games, and celebrate 13-plus years of commanding and conquering the world.

In our ongoing efforts to celebrate slack, I’ve found a few fantastic new ways to kill what small free time you reckon you have this weekend and beyond. Well, what are you waiting for?

You Oughta Be in Pictures

blogging, blogger,blogspot,make cash from blog

It’s simple to draw comparisons between movies and games, but video game makers really aspired to be like huge-time movie studios not too long ago. A small over 10 years back, entire soundstages loaded with actors, sets, and camera crews filmed full-motion video (FMV) for games. Why even bring that up? Well, this week marks the release of Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath on the PC. I’ll get to that game soon enough. During its run of 13-plus years, the C&C series has become known for cheesy full-motion video acting–and the real-time strategy part, of course. Now, the newest game is out, and FMV is back, recorded in HD. That means you can see semifamous actors struggle in the high-def focus wondering why they agreed to read from the script.

blogging, blogger,blogspot,make cash from blog

(Yeah, we all know the an$wer to that.)

This got me thinking that a name should place together a proper tribute to some of the “greatest” FMV performances to ever grace a CD-ROM. So, without further ado…

My Top Five FMV Game Appearances (click the links for more videos from the games):

blogging, blogger,blogspot,make cash from blog

5. Mark Hamill (and a total cast full of people such as Malcolm McDowell, John Rhys-Davies, and…hmmm…Ginger Lynn Allen) in Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger. Honorable mention for the huge Muppet-like costumes.

4. The sci-fi detective series Tex Murphy, featuring…a cast of people you probably didn’t know. The acting was excellent enough in trying to ape the total noir vibe. And to a degree, it worked.

3. Command & Conquer: Red Alert (this clip starring Albert Einstein’s stand-in). To me, Red Alert provided both fantastic gameplay and many memorable moments off the front line, thanks to the video clips. Some were intentionally cheesy, some not, but the huge surprise is that they were really decent. Crazy, I know.

2. Christopher Walken (!!!) in Ripper. Christoper Walken can be himself, reading the phone book, and I’d watch it. Place him in a video game, and that’s magic on a disc.

1. The infamous Night Trap “starring” Dana Plato and the refugees from some horrible 1980s slasher movie. A treat: You can see the total game as a couple of painfully long movie clips if you really despise yourself. Or, if you consider yourself only a minor glutton for punishment, try the first 9 minutes on for size.

Bonus community-specific navigation is available across the top of the page, under the PC World header and the horizontal ad. The vertical ad on the right side of the page is also gone, allowing the community the full width of the page. In addition to the forums, which are now called discussions, we’ve added access to two more content types: documents and blog posts.

Top Navigation

Click to view full-size image. At the top of every page is a horizontal navigation area designed to help you get around quickly and efficiently. From this list, you can make new content, see Your Material (including your profile, your preferences, your open questions, and content you have produced), examine your History (bits and pieces you have recently viewed), or browse (blogs, documents, discussions, tags, people, or communities).

‘What’s New’: The Community Home Page

The “What’s New” page has pointers to three new content types: the current top members for the entire community, a full list of communities, and a list of everything that has been posted to the community in reverse chronological order, with the newest bits and pieces on top.

Each linked item in the list has an icon next to it, so you can quickly identify it by its content type. You will also see how long ago it was posted and where it was posted. The user name of the post’s author, linked to that person’s profile, appears along with that person’s avatar. You can filter this list by content type, or you can make a custom view that shows content from forums that are of particular interest to you.

The Three Content Types

Click to view full-size image. The community’s three content types are exclusive by icons and a new color scheme: a silver speech bubble (and a gray-blue background) for discussions, a green group (and a light green background) for blogs, and a yellow page icon (and a pale yellow background) for documents. For more information, see our “What is the difference between a document, a blog post, and a discussion?” wiki document.

Top Members

Top Members Underneath the list of communities is the new top-members list. Members are ranked according to their point totals, and members with the highest rank are shown here with their avatar and rank icon. Top members in the entire community appear on the home page, while top members in individual topic communities are highlighted on those pages.

Communities

CommunitiesWhat we used to call a “forum” is a “community” in Clearspace. These individual topic areas are listed along the left side, and are frequently the same as they were in the previous PC World forum. Each community contains its own discussion forum, blog, and array of wiki documents. Content can be linked across communities by tags.

Standard Tags

Standard TagsBelow the list of communities is a tag cloud, a collection of the most standard tags from around the entire PC World community (and in specific topic communities, on those pages). The larger the font, the more standard the tag is. You can click on any tag to see a list of all content tagged with that word or phrase. See our “About tags and tag groups” wiki document for more information.

Diving In: Inside a Community

Click to view full-size image. When you penetrate a community, you will see a tabbed interface that provides an overview of all content in the community, plus “What’s New”; you may also go straight to the discussions, blog, or documents for that community.

To make content, select the appropriate link from the Events menu on the right side: Make a discussion, Make a document, or Make a blog post.

For more detailed information on specific content types, search for bits and pieces tagged with that content type. For all documents relating to the platform, search for the tag “clearspace”.

The Points System

Instead of basing user status levels on the number of posts, we have switched to a points-based system that awards points for participation as well as donations. You receive points for early discussion threads, making blog entries, and making wiki documents. You also get points when other members of the community find your message-board posts helpful or accurate in answering questions. View a list of the points per action and user ranks in our “Community Points System” wiki document.

I’ve been a musician for most of my life. While I can hold my own writing instrumental music, I struggle with writing lyrics. I usually need “divine inspiration” to get the process started. For even seasoned lyricists, writer’s block can permanently get in the way of finishing a excellent song. Song Thought Generator by The Directors Bureau Applications comes to the rescue by helping inspire a songwriter’s creative ingenuity.

The app presents three random phrases, which, together, form a fleeting lyrical thought. Either shake your iPhone or iPod touch, or tap on the shuffle icon, and the phrases exchange to form a new lyric. One time, you might get a touch pretty excellent like “Woman remember your tears,” while other times you might get a more rambling phrase, like “Yeah take a piece of your mouth.” Luckily, the app lets you fine-tune a lyric by locking phrases you want to keep and then shuffling only the unlocked ones. So, in the second instance, I locked the first two phrases and shuffled the last one to produce “Yeah take a piece of a dream.” Much better. (You can also accomplish the same result by flicking only the phrase you want to exchange.)

Currently the app supports only English; but you can delete (but not edit) the built-in phrases and easily add your own. So, with some work, it would be possible to make a complete foreign language version of the app. (The developer ought to seize the opportunity and sell localized versions in the App Store.) Also, I find myself writing down all the lyric thoughts I like, so having the ability to save lyrics would be very handy.

While Song Thought Generator won’t turn a hack songwriter into a pro, I reckon that it does help get the creative juices flowing. So, “divine inspiration” is now at my fingertips for only a dollar.

Song Thought Generator is compatible with any iPhone or iPod touch running the iPhone 2.x software update.
