This week we tune out with more free TV, watch some classic full-motion video games, and celebrate 13-plus years of commanding and conquering the world.
In our ongoing efforts to celebrate slack, I’ve found a few fantastic new ways to kill what small free time you reckon you have this weekend and beyond. Well, what are you waiting for?
You Oughta Be in Pictures

It’s simple to draw comparisons between movies and games, but video game makers really aspired to be like huge-time movie studios not too long ago. A small over 10 years back, entire soundstages loaded with actors, sets, and camera crews filmed full-motion video (FMV) for games. Why even bring that up? Well, this week marks the release of Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath on the PC. I’ll get to that game soon enough. During its run of 13-plus years, the C&C series has become known for cheesy full-motion video acting–and the real-time strategy part, of course. Now, the newest game is out, and FMV is back, recorded in HD. That means you can see semifamous actors struggle in the high-def focus wondering why they agreed to read from the script.

This got me thinking that a name should place together a proper tribute to some of the “greatest” FMV performances to ever grace a CD-ROM. So, without further ado…

5. Mark Hamill (and a total cast full of people such as Malcolm McDowell, John Rhys-Davies, and…hmmm…Ginger Lynn Allen) in Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger. Honorable mention for the huge Muppet-like costumes.
4. The sci-fi detective series Tex Murphy, featuring…a cast of people you probably didn’t know. The acting was excellent enough in trying to ape the total noir vibe. And to a degree, it worked.
3. Command & Conquer: Red Alert (this clip starring Albert Einstein’s stand-in). To me, Red Alert provided both fantastic gameplay and many memorable moments off the front line, thanks to the video clips. Some were intentionally cheesy, some not, but the huge surprise is that they were really decent. Crazy, I know.
2. Christopher Walken (!!!) in Ripper. Christoper Walken can be himself, reading the phone book, and I’d watch it. Place him in a video game, and that’s magic on a disc.
1. The infamous Night Trap “starring” Dana Plato and the refugees from some horrible 1980s slasher movie. A treat: You can see the total game as a couple of painfully long movie clips if you really despise yourself. Or, if you consider yourself only a minor glutton for punishment, try the first 9 minutes on for size.

For some reason MySpace did away with the clear all button on their MySpace Profile Editor. Hopefully this is only temporary and it will soon be back up and running soon for all of you who want to revert back to your previous MySpace profile.
In the meantime, here’s a fix for the MySpace Profile Editor. If you find yourself wanting to revert back to your ancient MySpace profile, this is what you can do…(Get Your Fix)

How To Tag Acquaintances in Facebook Posts

Now you can tag people in your Facebook posts. Previous to you could tag people in photos, now you can do it in your posts too. I like this feature because when I talk about my son, I can link to his profile and people know exactly who I’m talking about. They can click through to his profile and read about him and see who he is.
The one reckon I don’t like about this feature is that it only puts in the person’s full name. I like referring to my son as Nick. The tool puts his name in as Nick Roeder. So instead of me saying, “Nick won his bike race today.” It will read, “Nick Roeder won his bike race today.” Which sounds pretty weird since I’m talking about my own son, don’t you reckon?

I have to say, I’m really surprised at how many huge companies are still not using the power of social networking. I started a new “day job” at a rather large company (that shall remain unnamed)and was more than a small surprised to see how behind the times they are.
They do have a LinkedIn site, but it’s only for employees to join. There’s no networking going on at all, none that I can see anyhow. They have a Facebook, but they only post to it about three times a year.

Ready to add your Blogger template to your Blogger blog? First let’s get your Blogger template ready to be added to your Blogger blog.
1. Find the Blogger template you want to use on your Blogger blog.
2. Save the Blogger template to your computer. Save it to a place where you will be able to find it easily later.

3. If the Blogger template is in a .zip file you will need to extract the template files from the .zip file using a program like WinZip. If you have Windows XP then you by now have a Zip program. When extracting these files remember where they are saved to so you can find them top upload them.
4. Open NotePad, a further text program or the HTML editor you are using. Click “File” then “Open” in your text program and open the template files. Now we are going to get Blogger ready so you can penetrate your new template text.

1. Log into your Blogger account.
2. Under “Exchange Settings” you will see an icon that looks like a gear. Click on this icon.
3. Click on the tab that says “Template”.
4. Open a blank/new page in your NotePad program.
5. Highlight and copy all of the text and code that is inside the Blogger template page on Blogger.
6. Paste this code into the blank page you just produced in NotePad.
7. Save this NoteTab page as “bloggeroriginal.txt” (without the quotes). You will need this code again if you don’t like the way the new template looks and you want to go back to the original. Save this to a safe place in case you need it later.
Now we are going to replace the template code on your Blogger Templage page with your new Blogger template code.
1. Go back into the Blogger page. Again highlight the text and code on the page. This time delete it. Since it is saved to your computer and you are going to replace it with the new tempate text you will no longer need it to show here.
2. Go to the NotePad file where you opened the code for your new Blogger template. Highlight and copy all the text on the page (make sure you get it all).
3. Go to the Blogger Template page on Blogger. This should be blank now because you previously deleted everything in it.
4. Paste the new Blogger template code into this Template page.
5. Click on the large, orange button that says “Save Template Changes”.
6. On the next page click on “Republish” to republish your new Blogger template to your entire Blogger blog. This could take a couple minutes.
7. Then on the next page click on the button that says “Republish Entire Blog”.
8. Click on “View Blog” to see what your new blog looks like.
