My past personal experience with the effects of gossip, and knowing how the enemy has attempted to use gossip as a force to destroy churches, the workplace, youth in schools, marriages and our communities. I felt that people respond in a positive manner when they are enlightened about issues they do not know about, and issues they take effort to know and care about.Camille: When and why did you begin writing?Mia: I began writing articles on gossip and its effects in 2007, which then lead to writing, “Stop the Gossiping”. Writing for me has been my outlet of expression of my inner feelings. There were times when I did not want to burden others about what I was feeling, so I would write my expressions and thoughts, in my writings about what I had observed in the lives of people who were suffering silently and not being heard.Camille: As a child, what did you want to become when you grew up? Mia: As a child growing up, I always wanted to be in business for myself. I always felt that being my own boss would allow me to make a change and opportunities for others. I must say, as a child, I never entertained the thought of being a writer or author. But I am thankful to God for the opportunity and insight that He has given to me, through being victorious over my circumstances, and also providing healing and encouragement for many that are faced with the effects of gossip.Camille: Presently in middle school and high school, gossip has certainly evolved. It has now gone to cyberspace, and the words and accusations have become harsher because the perpetrators of the gossip are able to conceal their identity on the Internet. The effects of gossip are devastating. In some instances the news has reported several high school students across the country who have actually committed suicide because of the venomous words hurled at them. What is your advice to a young girl or young man who is in great pain because they are undergoing… what I call a “gossip assault” in middle school or high school?Mia:There have been large amounts of youth who have been the target of gossip through peer pressure, and bullying. As a result, their characters have been severely misrepresented. These horrendous effects have left a devastating end result on their lives and the lives of their families. This saddens God, for His love is so great for His youth. God especially wants His youth to be victorious over the enemy and their minds to become sharp. His Word says to be “Wise as a serpent, and harmless as a dove” God wants His youth to be winners in Him. Prayer is the strongest gift that adults can give to youth.I would like to share, if there is ever a time, you should know this in your spirit, it is now! If and when one becomes a subtractor and not an adder to your spirit, you must immediately remove them from the front seat of your life, to the backseat or completely out of your car. Keep those in the front seat of your life who are builders of your spirit, and show love in your life, and love and fear the Lord. Camille: Do you believe that some gossip can be positive? Mia: In Exodus 23:1 “You shall not circulate a false report. If God was standing right next to me, would He approve of this conversation? 2. Is the person I am discussing, present, to defend themselves? 3. If the tables were turned, would I like this to be said about me or one of my loved ones? If the answers to the above questions were “yes,” then there has not been an attempt to destroy a person’s character.Outside of asking if God would approve of the conversation; is this conversation something that you need to ask a person that you care about? And should it be asked in private? In no way should anyone be placed in a position to be embarrassed and made to feel that their private details true or false are the root of conversation, for entertainment and amusement for the group for that day, or any other day.Camille: If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?Mia: I can proudly share that God is my Mentor, I also enjoy reading the writings of Ellen G. Twitter the Election – is There a Twitter Expansion on the Horizon?

As Democratic Sen. Joe Biden and Republican Gov. Sarah Palin prepare to square off tonight in the first Vice Presidential debate, I need to step back to a moment last week and talk about something Twitter launched for the election â?? that has the social media world stirring in its belly.

For the presidential debate last week, Twitter launched a niche application site called Twitter E08 that focused directly on the presidential election campaign in the United States. The website worked by simply filtering twitter messages (tweets) from all users by certain keywords and aggregating these messages into one page.

In addition, a user can go directly to the section on the website and send a message directly, and it is seen in the twitter timeline immediately. I love the idea of this, as does the community â?? if you head to the election page â?? you see it is constantly updating â?? the interaction is priceless, or uselessâ?¦depending who you ask.

By promoting the election â?? Twitter has finally begun to think about â??microâ?? sites within Twitter that will not only aggregate conversations, but build out â??channelsâ?? per-say of different topics, sports, fashion, marketing, schools, and dare I say â??businessâ???

Letâ??s walk into one of those channels, oh, look, a big transition ad for the NFL.Â Oh look, now were in the football channel â?? with 543 other people talking about football. You see my point. I am not against this at all.Â I am actually 100% for it.Â I am sure Twitter is tired of hearing criticism surrounding their business model and how they generate money.Â I think this election is the starting point for something â??bigâ?? twitter is considering doing.Â Twitter is run by a group of 20 people, thatâ??s it!Â I am sure their partner channels and VC funds are well stocked, but naturally you think â??biggerâ?? and growth.

I know we would hear endless people complain about a new layout, if the site were to take on niche groups and starts with ads galore; but I think only the current twitter use would complain. Look at the people who now wish to ban the new Facebook layout â?? because they are too lazy to see their precious applications are on the bottom toolbar â?? in static mode. Facebook was tired of seeing user pages that would just go down for miles with comments, applications, etcâ?¦this opened the door to keep everything within the â??userâ??s levelâ? â?? instead of having to scroll down 30 seconds to see what someone said about somebody else (you know you care about that!)

Either way, this election and what Twitter is â??experimentingâ?? with is just the beginning of a new style Twitter will be undergoing. You know it. I know it.Â We all know it.

Requested domain but didn’t purchase at the time – now it says there is a request for it and won’t let me buy it ,How do you get around blogger blocki

I typed in the domain www.guidetomenhattan.com to purchase and it was available. Instead of getting up to find my credit card to buy it then, I abandoned my request, or so I thought. Now, when I try to get it now it says it is still available, but when I fill out my info and try to click to the agreement terms, it says someone else has requested the name and to contact service help.

I believe it’s being blocked because of the nickname for donkeys (and butts) in the url.

Totally blocked my blog with “inadmissable url address” or something like that. I tried using xx and xy for the ss’s in weblasso but no luck.

Useless Traffic? Is there such a thing? GEO Redirecting your Foreign Traffic

If you’ve read some of my other tutorials, you already know that your .htaccess file can do a heck of a lot more than just keep someone from hot linking your pictures. When you are hosted with some of the larger companies out there, it might be your only viable method of communicating with the server directly.

Because that’s what .htaccess does. It is a file that gives exact commands to the server. Commands that tell the server how to respond in a certain situation or environment.

Now to keep this simple, we won’t go into the different modules that you can utilize in .htaccess like mod rewrite, or all the other mod’s out there. Because there are many. All mod stands for is ‘module’, an additional piece of software to be used by the server.

Now if you are on a windows server, you can stop reading this now. .htaccess is only an option if you are on a Unix, Linux, Apache type server.

Down to today’s topic. Redirecting foreign traffic using htaccess.

Before I write a single detail though let me say this.

All traffic is valuable, just in different ways. Do NOT just copy and paste any of the code that follows, blindly into your htaccess file. Please research your options fully. Read several sources and find the best solution for you. Each server and it’s environment is different.

Be sure to ask lots of questions before you start wildly adding commands. It could result in a costly crash, or serious bandwidth overages that would also cost you a pretty penny. Do not simply take my word for it and copy my examples without knowing what the results can be.

In a nutshell, there are a few different ways to redirect traffic using your .htaccess file.

Originally the whole concept was centered around BLOCKING a certain IP block rather than redirecting. The basic function for this was either to ALLOW or DENY a user that originates from a certain IP block. Very useful in having a secure area or folder. You can block ALL IP’s except your’s if you happen to have a static IP, or you could allow your general IP block that your ISP owns to have access. Still in effect cutting down your security risks substantially.

If you wanted to just block an IP, you would add something like this to your htaccess:

order deny,allow deny from 1.2.3.4 deny from 5.6.7.

In the above example, you are blocking two separate IP’s. 1.2.3.4 and 5.6.7.

As I said before, you could also use wildcards to block all users from those blocks. 1.*.*.* would not only block 1.2.3.4 , but it would block every user coming from the IP block starting with the number 1. Millions of users in most cases.

So how can we use this process to redirect foreign traffic?

Instead of using a flat htaccess command like order, allow, or deny, we could use a rewrite rule or condition instead. This does require that you have mod rewrite for your server or it won’t work. To test it, use one of my earlier tutorials and do a simple ‘www’ or no ‘www’ url redirect and see if your server has the capability.

Now, I don’t want to go thru all the different ways you can redirect IP’s or domains or certain hosts in this tutorial. It is easily done and there are a jillion tutorials out there on this topic. So for the sake of brevity, I’m going to focus on one particular method. But we do need to cover one thing. There is a big difference between a flat rule and a conditional rule.

If your syntax is wrong and you only put in the rule and not the condition, it will be a catch all, changing your site’s access to all users. Syntax for your rules and conditions are VERY important.

One character in the wrong place can mean the difference between a really great new setup, or your entire site’s access blocked and 500 internal errors for all your users.

Once again, proceed with caution when altering these files.

So now we want to figure out how to push all that foreign traffic to something a little more useful or profitable. We could make a list of all the foreign / undesirable IP blocks and list them out, line by line. This is how it was done for a long time.

But think of the hundreds and possibly thousands of lines of directives you would have to include in your htaccess. A giant headache to say the least. Time consuming and leaves a good chance for error along the way.

But that issue has been solved by many different IP location modules, primarily Geo mods.

In this instance, we are going to look at the Geo IP module. All Geo IP mod contains is a simplified ‘country code’ system that streamlines your code using it’s database for reference. What I mean by this is simple. Instead of listing possibly hundreds of different IP blocks for a given country, you will only use ONE country code.

For example, if you wanted to redirect users originating from Mexico, then you would use something like this:

This would send them to ‘myredirection.url’ . So the first thing you want to do before you start adding a single line to your htaccess, is to decide where you want to send these users.

There are many companies that will buy your unwanted traffic and pay for each user you send. However, unless you are running a million hit’s a day, they are probably not going to give you much for it. Pennies.

So it’s much wiser to find a good way to use the traffic yourself. One way is to find a good affiliate that caters to a specific demographic and location. So this is going to take a little research. You will not only want to find the affiliate, but if at all possible, you want to tie it into your sites general focus / topic, so that you have a better chance of converting that traffic into cash.

It may not always be possible, so just do what you should always be doing when considering a new program. Put yourself in your users shoes and try to imagine what they are looking for. What their interests might be, etc.

You’re probably going to want to break down different types of foreign traffic into separate blocks, sending each block to different pages you have setup for that demographic. For example:

RewriteCond %{ENV:GEOIP_COUNTRY_CODE} ^TW$ [NC]

RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/chineseusers.html [R,L]

Using the country codes for primarily Chinese users and sending them all to a single page setup for a Chinese affiliate program. In this case, ‘mydomain.com/chineseusers.html ‘ .

You’ll want to follow this pattern throughout, unless you’ve decided to move it all to one place, or have sold it all to a foreign traffic buyer. You can break it down as much as you want too, sending each country to it’s own page if you prefer.

This is really a 2 part question: Is there any way to select an ad myself to put in my blog, and second, my sidebar ad is no longer showing because there are 3 already listing under each of my posts – any way to get the sidebar ad up AND 2 ads between the posts?? If enough demand from Mongolian bloggers perhaps there is a chance that the language will be added to the list.So far the Slideshow gadget is completely whack. The upload makes NO sense. It does not work. What is this about “Keyword”?? I am trying to upload an album from Flickr, to the side bar, and I want the images to be larger than postage stamp size as well. What is the deal?

There are many ways to upload a slide show to your blog. Here is my way and it works every time.

Copy your own slide show codes from somewhere. Go to dashboard on blogger. Click on:-

1. layout blogging, blogger,blogspot,make money from blog

2. add a gadget

3. scroll down to html/JavaScript

4. add to blog (paste your codes here in the large box)

5. save changes (you can drag and reposition your new gadget)

6. save

If you do not have the codes for your own slide show, you need to create a slide show first. Please go to my blog: http://davidchin35.blogspot.com/2005/07/blog-post.html

click on ” make your own” under my slide and just follow the prompts to create your own slide show, get the codes and paste as above.

Last February, Bryce Parkhurst brought home a new Toshiba Satellite notebook with Vista Home Basic installed. The 33-year-old Easton, Pennsylvania, circuit designer bought the PC to enjoy music, but it soon hit sour notes. Everything seemed to run a little slower under the new operating system. His Alesis Photon X25 MIDI controller hardware no longer worked. When he tried to run his favorite DJ software, it didn’t work properly; when he tried to quit the program, Vista rebooted him into Safe Mode. Any system change instigated a seemingly endless series of “Accept or Cancel” messages from Vista’s User Account Control feature.

After five days, Parkhurst had had enough. He removed Vista and installed Windows XP. Since then, his new notebook has been trouble-free.

In contrast, Bernard Mongeon is quite pleased with Vista Ultimate, despite problems getting it to work with the scanner and security software on his three-year-old desktop. The 54-year-old weather forecaster in Kingston, Nova Scotia, accepts such glitches as a normal part of moving to a new operating system.

Mandar Jadhav, an 18-year-old Rutgers University student, is somewhere in between. He loves the slick 3D look of Vista Premium, but is pained by the software and hardware incompatibilities he encountered when he upgraded his nearly new Dell laptop.

These three users neatly capture the disparate views of Vista during its first 30 days in the field. In PC World’s online survey of nearly 1000 early Vista adopters, slightly more than a third said they were very satisfied with the new OS. Another third reported being satisfied overall, but not exactly wowed; nearly one in four were unimpressed.

And regardless of their overall verdict, a majority–some 61 percent–reported at least one hiccup getting Vista to work with their existing hardware or software. After more than five years in the making, Vista offers much promise but still has many problems to resolve.

PC World heard from approximately 1000 Windows Vista early adopters about their experiences with the new operating system. We’ve put the full results of our survey into a PDF file, viewable with Adobe Reader.

Looks Count

The one thing almost everyone agrees on: Vista looks great. More than 80 percent of survey respondents said the new interface is an improvement. The translucent Aero environment available in the Premium and Ultimate versions may be one of the few features that live up to Microsoft’s “The ‘Wow’ starts now” marketing campaign.

“The Aero interface is excellent,” says Brandon Morgan, a 24-year-old graduate student in Columbia, Missouri, who had no problems running Vista Home Premium, which came preinstalled on his new Dell laptop. “The first time I saw Vista I thought of the Mac OS, but it seems to be more sophisticated.”

But not everyone could enjoy Vista’s good looks. One out of seven Vista users in our survey had trouble obtaining video drivers capable of handling Aero and DirectX 10 (DX10), which allows for faster, more realistic gaming. (At press time, no DX10-capable games had been announced.)
