How to Optimize Your Tweeting

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Online marketers have been asking me about Twitter’s role in search engine ranking for awhile now.  The following should clear up some misconceptions as well as give you some simple steps you can take to better optimize your twitter activity.

1. username and account name

Your username, or handle, should be relevant to your brand, campaign and/or company name.  Your followers should be able to retract it quickly since its attached to the end of twitter urls, e.g. twitter.com/yoursite.  Your account appears next to your profile which can be the same or different from your username.  Choose an account name that promotes you, your company or your brand.

2. Bio information

Make it count!  But, there are two schools of thought here.  One strategy is to include only the most relevant keyword-rich content you can script within the allotted 160 characters.  This will enhance indexing due to its core relevance.  We’re seeing other marketers take a different route by writing more personal, down-to-earth or humorous descriptions as a means of connecting instead of blatant selling through keyword overload

3. Your “Retweetability”

Permanently be mindful of the 140 character limit for all tweets, including your intial tweets and the potential retweets from your followers.  Truly viral tweets which proliferate through several social circles are evenly fleeting enough to facilitate multiple retweets.  A excellent rule of thumb is to further limit your peep lengths to 120 characters.

4. Tweeting

Carefully select the initial characters of each peep.  We’re learning more that the “lead-in” of each message tends to carry more significance to search engines as it will dictate the peep’s title tag in a Google search result.  Roughly 40 characters factor into each peep’s title tag, which includes the account name and a peep’s initial characters.  You also Want to have keyword-rich tweets when possible.  While the reason behind this is intuitive, you still need to weigh keyword density with habitual conversational jargon which offers value and adds personality.

5. Spread the word

Aim to distribute your twitter profile url as usually as possible.  You could integrate it into your press release or blogs by placing a call to action following your post.  I know other marketers who place it in their Global Footers which appears not more than every page of their site.  Both of these place forward excellent between back to twitter.  Using a url shortening service, such as Bit.ly or Tr.im, allows you to use multiple shortened links all which lead to your Twitter page.  The added tracking capability can pinpoint what sources are driving the most traffic back to your Twitter page.

How to Make Money and Promote your Site by Tweeting on Twitter

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

If you have to learn how to make cash then you should try tweeting on Tweeter. It is a simple way to promote your site, but one of which most have small knowledge. Twitter is not a new phenomenon on the internet, because it was produced by Jack Dorsey as long ago as 2006. Don’t laugh – 2006 is a long time ago in internet terms, and Twitter has grown a fantastic deal since it was conceived by Jack as a means of small groups communicating by using fleeting SMS messages.

Messaging air force are now commonplace, but Twitter has urban into a world-wide phenomenon. I am not here to discuss Twitter’s past, but how you can use it in the future: not only to communicate with people, but to make cash and turn it into a marketing tool more effectual than any that have gone previous to.

I fully know how Google works (as well as anyone who is not employed by Google can), and Twitter is Google bait! This will only last for a fleeting time, and even if you only have a blog that you want to promote you must learn how to use Twitter to promote it. If you have a Squidoo lens, just the same: Twitter can be use to give you visitors.

So how is that? The question you have to answer yourself when you peep on Twitter is who will see it? A peep is not a web page, and is not listed on a search engine. It isn’t an email, or any other direct means of communication. The only people that will come across those fleeting messages you send are those that are ‘following’ you. To do that, they must deliberately click a link so that they do so. Why should they?

Many newbies to Twitter make their tweets and they go nowhere because they don’t have any followers. Imagine if you could choose your own followers. I am not saying that Britney would follow you because if you check out Britney’s link you will see no tweets apart from hers and her manager’s and agent’s. She uses Twitter as an advertising medium, and follows nobody.

You can use Twitter that way too, and can make known harvest and web pages but refuse followers – you will then make nothing. It is very vital that learn how to get followers, but the followers that suit you. There are ways to achieve that, and also ways to choose the Tweeters that you want to follow. If you get it right, one or both of two things can happen:

1. You can make a lot of acquaintances, even if you have no desire to use Tweeter to make cash. 2. You can use Tweeter make a lot of cash, even if you have no desire to make acquaintances.

What you should be aiming for is a combination of each, and if you know how to do it, then you can, to the advantage of you and your acquaintances on Tweeter. They need a service or have a problem to be solved, and you can provide either or both. But how do you get together?

By Tweets of course! But you have to get them following you, and while you know how to register with Tweeter and make your tweets, who is reading them? Nobody! But, let’s take just one social networking site – Facebook. As with most, you can have your tweets posted on your wall in Facebook, so that all of your acquaintances can see them. That is just one simple way of advertising yourself perfectly free of charge.

Solve that problem and you will be made. You will be able to place everything you learn into practice and will be able to make cash and promote your site by Tweeting on Twitter! Reckon of all the social networking sites out there on which you can make your tweets visible, even to non tweeters? At one time it was tag and ping – that is ancient hat now.

There are far better ways of getting your message publicized than that: Twitter offers it if only you can see how to do it. Enough said!

Free Twitter Tools – Improve Your Tweeting

Free Twitter Tools â?? Improve Your Tweeting

I get about 20 messages a day on Twitter about how I can â??grow my twitter following on autopilotâ?. The thing is, just about every person telling me this barely has any followers. The truth is thereâ??s nothing you can really do to grow your following on autopilot, it just takes some time and effort. There are some free tools that can help but, as listed not more than.

TWEET LATER

Peep Later is the most useful Twitter program I use by far. The interface is horrible, but you only have to configure your Twitter options once and then youâ??re done. After youâ??ve loaded your Twitter account into Peep Later, go to â??Financial statementâ?, â??List Financial statementâ?, then â??Editâ?. You should have at least the following two options set-up.

Auto-follow: This will follow anyone who follows you involuntarily. This is essentially just common Twitter etiquette for marketers… if a name follows you, you follow them back. Most marketers on Twitter use this function, which is how you will get your followers; when you choose to follow a name and they have this option selected, they will involuntarily follow you back, and you now have a new follower. If you gain followers this way, itâ??s just nice to return the favour. Additionally, the more people you follow, the more likely a name is to follow you.

Auto-Welcome: I would also recommend checking this and using it. It serves as a fantastic way to start up a conversation with new potential leads. Send a simple message… thank people for following you, and maybe question them a question to get the conversation started. Do no pitch your business in your auto welcome message. I get this all the time everyday, and I just delete those messages involuntarily. Be prepared to be bombarded with such messages.

You will also see Auto-Unfollow here. I personally donâ??t use this (more on unfollowing under “Friend or Follow” not more than).

Peep Later also allows you to… Peep Later. Go to â??Tweetsâ?, then â??New Peepâ?. You can write in as many Tweets as you like and how them in print to your account when you like. This way you donâ??t have to return to Twitter right through the day to post a touch new. Simply set up a few new Tweets in the morning and then forget about it.

I personally donâ??t use any other Peep Later functions, but browse around and see what suits you.

TWITTER FEED

Twitter feed will Peep your blogâ??s RSS feed, i.e. every time you make a new blog post, you will involuntarily Peep this to your followers. This is fantastic because it gets traffic to your blog, and you donâ??t have to worry about remembering to Peep it yourself.

TWEET DECK

Peep Deck allows you to do everything you can do on Twitter, but without having to really go online to your Twitter account. It has a different interface than Twitter, which some people may like. It also has an option to shorten your urlâ??s (which Twitter does, but only after posting the Peep), which can help you make longer Tweets. Beware though, Peep Deck makes really loud annoying sounds periodically, so you might want to lower your volume.

HUITTER

Twitter recently changed the the interface in the â??followingâ? section. Previously you could immediately tell who you were following, but wasnâ??t following you back, but you now have to click the icon on the right of the screen to figure this out. Yes this seems unforced, but when youâ??re trying to unfollow 100 people at a time, it takes much longer with the new interface. Huitter allows you to unfollow everyone who isn’t unfollowing you with the click of a button (if you wish to keep following certain people you can specify this). If you wish to unfollow these people, itâ??s now a lot simpler. For anyone who doesnâ??t know, once you hit the 2000 â??followingâ? mark, you must have followers within 10% of your following, i.e. if youâ??re following 2000 people, you must have 1800 or more followers. Hence, it becomes necessary to unfollow people who arenâ??t following you, or else you wonâ??t be able to follow more people.

TWITTER BACKGROUNDS

Iâ??m not speaking specifically about any tool or website here. Google â??twitter backgroundsâ? and youâ??ll get several sites with free twitter backgrounds, some with some really really cool images. Theyâ??re a lot more appealing than the dull ones provided on Twitter, and they can serve to start up conversations too (I get questioned about my Twitter background once in a while).

So there is your â??automatedâ? Twitter system. Add as many new followers per day and it wonâ??t take too long to get to several thousand followers (I recommend following less than 400 new people a day, or else your account might get suspended). Just remember to unfollow people, be friendly, and donâ??t spam people with your business opportunity.

To find any of said applications, simply google the application title. For information on optimizing your Twitter profile for your business, see my article â??How To Use Twitter For Your Businessâ?.

Learning to Tweet – Top Secrets To Effective Tweeting Revealed

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

So, what is a peep? If you are on Twitter, you ought to peep.

A “peep” is a Twitter message that can be sent from your mobile phone, the web page, and the Instant Messenger (IM). As soon as you post a peep, it becomes visible on the Twitter pages and mobile phones of your followers.

A Bit of Twitiquette

Twitter gives you ample frankness to express yourself as you wish. But, you will have a better Twitter experience if you follow certain unwritten and written Twitter rules. I want to call this â??twittiquette.â?

Newcomers, of course, are forgiven if they make a social gaffe or two every now and then. After all, they are feeling their way around the site and don’t really know many things about Twitter and tweeting. When I first registered at Twitter, I found myself guilty of making some such gaffes myself; and Twitter users were gracious enough to forgive me for them.

What Do Twitter Users Peep About?

What should you peep about? Twitter doesn’t have strict rules of what you should say or shouldnâ??t. Most tweets are parts of long conversation threads or announcements. To delight in the ultimate Twitter experience, you must learn to strike a weigh between the two.

Here is a list of things you can peep about:

Tweets are confidential; only your followers can read and respond to them. If you want to make your tweets public, you can do so by providing your Twitter identity. Interested parties can even subscribe to your tweets.

You will find a wide range of tweets on Twitter. Some of them make Twitter users erupt in laughter; some of them lead to a lot of reflection; and some lead to exciting and long threads of conversation.

Twitter is a site for fun and interaction. The purpose of tweeting is to strike up conversations, network, and build relationships. So, share whatever you have and delight in tweeting!

Guide To Tweeting On Twitter For MLM

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Twitter is an brilliant tool that can be used to help your MLM business. I covered how to get followers for you MLM in a previous article. So now that you’ve got some followers, what should you be tweeting? Read on to find out.

What To Peep.

When you first start on Twitter, it can be hard to know what to peep about. I knew this was a dilemma for me when I first started. Some people do constant updates of what they are doing, while others spam whatever it is they are trying to market. Obviously I don’t recommend spamming when it comes to Twitter or anything else for that topic. But you want to promote you or your business at some point otherwise you won’t get any traffic from twitter.

Just because you’re in MLM, that doesn’t mean you have to peep about MLM exclusively. You will come across as being one dimensional and it will be obvious to everyone that you’re only on Twitter to promote your MLM. Instead you should peep about and link to appealing articles, blog posts, videos and even photos you’ve come across. I’m not saying you shouldn’t peep about MLM at all, because you should to a degree. But you don’t want to peep about MLM and nothing else. You need to mix it up with other generic content that would interest you or other people such as news, gossip, a touch pun, or a touch informative. Because they are using Twitter, they will probably also be interested in content about Twitter or other forms of Social media.

In addition to these generic tweets, blend in some promotional tweets. The ratio of fixed content to promotional content should not exceed 5:1. In other words you should only do one peep about promotional content (content that promotes you or your opportunity) per 5 tweets about fixed content (appealing articles you’ve come across etc)

The two best types of promotional tweets are either tweets that link to a post on your blog or tweets that link to a webinar. You can also peep a link to your landing page, but this is more aggressive so caution is advised. If you want to peep to a landing page, only do it once per day.

Obviously you don’t want to just peep a link with no text. You need to include some text that tells your followers what they will find if they click on the link. I guess you’re in the end making a headline for the link, so make it memorable so people will want to click on the link.

When To Peep.

There’s no point doing all these tweets if no one is online to read them. Here are the best times to peep.

Weekdays are the best days of the week, particularly Tuesday & Wednesday.Sunday is the most terrible day to peep (but the best day to follow). So if you want to take a break from tweeting, then Sunday would be the day to do it.Afternoon is the best time of day to peep, from about noon to 3pm.Night time is also very excellent for tweeting (approx. 8pm – 11pm)Mornings aren’t as excellent but are still worthwhile. You never know when your followers are going to be online so you might as well peep 7 days a week. It doesn’t take up too much time so there’s no real reason not to. If you are strapped for time, you can also outsource this work as it’s pretty straight forward to do.

Finding Content To Peep

The two main sources I use for sourcing content are Google Alerts and StuffToTweet.com. Google Alerts in the end alerts you about content relating to specific keywords that you want to search for. Google Alerts is excellent because you can choose the topic that you want to receive content on. Also, it is sent straight to your email, so you don’t have to go looking for it. Go to www.google.com/alerts and type in a touch that you want to receive content about. So if you wanted to be alerted to content relating to Ferrari, you would place “Ferrari” in the search box and you would receive all the articles, videos, blog posts etc that relate to Ferrari. Not more than the search box, choose “comprehensive” so you get a mix of media formats and also select to receive the content “once a day”.

www.StuffToTweet.com is also fantastic because it is exactly what you are looking for. As the name suggests, the website shows material that would be excellent to peep. It shows what’s standard so you don’t have to worry about whether other people will like it or not. Simply go to www.StuffToTweet.com and it’s all there for you to see on one page. It show’s you what’s standard on Digg, Youtube, Mashable, Del.icio.us and even what’s standard on Twitter right now.

To these two sources I mix in any news, gossips or videos that I’ve come across and found appealing. Then if you want, you can mix in some tweets about what you’re up to.

Peep In Blocks

One peep on its own is going to have nearly no effect as it’s going to get lost amongst the tweets of other people. What you can do to combat this is to peep in blocks. In other words, you make multiple tweets in a fleeting space of time so that your tweets get noticed more. You should peep in blocks of 5 – 10 spaced 30 – 60 seconds apart. Every 5 or 6 tweets, do a promotional peep that links to your blog, webinar or landing page. If you do it this way, people won’t reckon you’re on Twitter just to sell a touch because you’re also contributing all these tweets about appealing content.

Taking what was learnt from the When To Peep section, we can now schedule when to do the blocks of tweets. Do a block of 5 – 10 tweets every morning, afternoon and night and make sure to include a promotional peep in each block.

Like I said previous to, you never know when your followers are going to be online, so you might as well be tweeting 7 days a week, but if you want to have a day off, Sunday would be the best day. You could even use Sunday to prepare the week’s tweets in a notepad or word file. Personally, I have a Word template that I use to prepare the day’s tweets which I fill with fresh content everyday (or at least I try to).

Summary

Tweeting on Twitter to promote your MLM doesn’t have to be hard. As shown, you can in the end use other people’s content and peep about it to generate interest in what you have to place forward. It doesn’t get any simpler than that. Mix in some promotional tweets and the leads will start flowing. Keep in mind that you have to have a decent following (2000+) previous to you will get meaningful results. But keep at it and be consistent and Twitter can be a very powerful way to promote you or your MLM.

Tweeting George Orwell

Friday, January 1st, 2010

George Orwell has been dead for 59 years. The brilliant British author, whose nightmare vision of a future in which technology and ideology combine to enslave humanity has been haunting readers for more than half a century, never lived to see the rise of the real-world inventions that might make “Huge Brother” real. Orwell never encountered closed-path surveillance cameras, data-mining universal wiretaps, criminal psychological profiling, Air America Radio, or the Fox News Channel. But George Orwell is on Twitter.Every day, you see, the Orwell Trust tweets an excerpt from the dead writer’s 1938-42 diary; through the magic of microblogging, you can now relive George Orwell’s life, as he lived it—just seventy years and one information revolution later. Even literary giants sometimes write dull prose. Orwell’s diary/peep for today is surely less appealing than yours or ours: “Reasonably hot, but today cloudy. Most of our nasturtiums in flower & everything else growing rapidly. Mosquitoes rather terrible.” Hopefully the excellent material comes later.)Orwell on Twitter raises an appealing question: Is the information overload associated with the microblogging phenomenon just the next step on our civilization’s long road toward 1984? Will teachers harness the power of decentralized communication to engage today’s students on their own ground? Or will students use ever more fragmented communication channels to sabotage authority and literary integrity? Is the decentralization of information inherent in the Twitter model a means for us to liberate ourselves from the centralized power of “Huge Brother”? Hard to say, for sure; perhaps the answer is both. Maybe George Orwell’s next peep will help us figure it out.
