Quick Work From Home Tips: Marketing Through Tweeting
Sunday, January 17th, 2010Probably one of the many reasons why Internet marketing is pretty much thriving over the years are those Internet tools and resources – some are free and some come with a fee – that have come into existence to help folks with activities in relation to their work from home or online businesses. Just like using social bookmarking sites, article directories and social networks, people are now marketing through tweeting or through the use of the most standard microblogging site, Twitter. In this modern age, you will rarely find a name who doesn’t have a Twitter account but even those who are not riding the Twitter bandwagon know at least what the aforementioned site is and how it works. Twitter lets its users post fleeting (140 characters maximum) updates, information and shout-outs in the form of “tweets.” Early on, this was thought of as just an activity between acquaintances and family to keep each other updated and connected. But tweeting has urban more uses ever since. It’s now a way to footstep activities of celebrities and well-known personalities, to post business updates, to share appealing news, tales and information, to widen your group of online acquaintances and, of course, to make known your work from home or online business.Using Twitter and including it in your marketing campaign and strategies is one excellent go considering the number of people using that site all over the globe every hour, every day. But marketing through tweeting should be effectual enough to ensure you that you and your work from home are on the path of success. Here are a few quick tips to do that:The FollowAlmost all work from home tips regarding Twitter would tell you to build a following. It’s indeed the basics of this site. One has to increase the number of his or her followers. If you look at it in a social aspect, getting more followers will give you the chance to know and interact with more people. In a business aspect, more followers means more people to promote your harvest and air force to. That, in turn, means more potential customers. And for those folks you followed yet haven’t been able to follow back ever since, just do a small “unfollow” magic. The FeaturesTwitter has a lot of features that you can utilize to your advantage. Online marketers have been searching and count features that will help them make known their online businesses, air force and harvest using Twitter. Some of the standard choices are Retweet, Group Peep, Auto Complete, Peep Popularity, Tweets-threading and others. The PostSome folks using Twitter may find it hard to promote with such small available space for content. One hundred forty characters may not be enough but you got to learn how to make fleeting content, a post that is still genuine and appealing even if presented briefly. Also, if you’re between, keep in mind that you should link to a touch (a web page, an article, etc.) that has excellent content as well. The DetailsThis may just be a small deal but if you are going to be marketing through tweeting, you should at least have an thought or two about who your followers are. Sometimes when you check on the profiles of your followers, you will find either some empty financial statement or those that have by now been banned. If you have sufficient time, you can “unfollow” those. Just reckon of it as a way to clean your list of followers and besides, there’s clearly no use following them. Do you want to waste your time and efforts advertising your harvest and work from home to such blank financial statement?
How Search Engines Work | SEO Traffic Spider
Monday, January 4th, 2010One of the facts about search engines is that they utilize software programs known as bots or spiders that crawl the web and build their database. These spiders are sent to view and index pages which are later processed and retrieved from the database. If ranking on top of the search engine results pages (SERPs) is crucial for you, then it is vital you know the basics of making a search engine friendly website. Not more than it is clarified in detail as to how a search engine works.CrawlingFirstly, search engines crawl the web to gather information and build their database. This is done by an automated software called a search engine crawler or spider or a bot. These spiders crawl through a site and look at the content (mainly text) to know what the site is about and then start collecting, parsing and storing the data so that it can be easily be retrieved from its database. But, since there are over billion pages on the web, it is practically impossible for a spider to revisit a site on a daily basis only to see if a new page has been added or an existing page has gone through any modification. Many times the spider may not stay your website for a month or more also, therefore, the right impression of SEO efforts cannot be known immediately. It is also excellent to know that search engines are mainly text driven and are oblivious to images, sounds, flash movies, javascript, frames, directories, and similar material. Therefore having lots of these on your website may not be very helpful from the SEO point of view as these will not be crawled and indexed for further processing.Search Engine IndexingOnce a page is crawled, the next step involves indexing the content. This process entails finding those words that can best describe the webpage content and then assigning the webpage to specific keywords. The indexed page is then stored in the huge database for retrieval later. At times, the search engine may not be able to correctly identify the meaning of the page and in such a case optimization of the page can help it classify it rightly and achieve a better ranking for you.ProcessingThis is done when a user enters a search query – in simple terms, the search engine analyses the information it has indexed in relation to the search question for. Since there will be millions of pages containing the same search term, the search engine calculates the relevance of each page in its database to the search query. The relevancy of a page is calculated based on various algorithms. These algorithms assign different weights for general aspects like Meta Tags, Keyword Density, and Links. But, one basic truth that you need to know is that all major search engines evenly exchange their algorithms and if you want to take up again to appear on the top of the search results, you need to keep your pages up to date. Also, it would be a wise choice to reckon about SEO to rank on the top and also gain an edge over your competitors.RetrievingThis is the last step in the process where the search engine retrieves the results, that is, it throws up all the relevant results previous to the user. The uses can see a vast pool of information related to their search query. There may be questions regarding how differently each search engine functions. But, one basic thing that you need to know is that there are differences in the manner various search engines function but at the end of the day they all perform three fundamental tasks: * Searching the Internet based on the search query entered by the user. * Maintaining an index of all the information that gather from various pages. * Permit users to search for words available in that index.
How exactly do search engine spiders & robots work
Friday, January 1st, 2010Some internet surfers still hold on to the mistaken belief that actual people stay each and every website and then input it for inclusion in the search engine’s database. Imagine, if these were right! With billions of websites available on the internet and with a majority of these sites offering fresh content it will take thousands of people to achieve the tasks made by search engine spiders and robots – and even then they won’t be as well-organized or as thorough.Search engine spiders and robots are pieces of code or software that have only one aim – seek content on the internet and within each and every individual web page out there. These tools have a very vital role in how effectively search engines operate.Search engine spiders and robots stay websites and get the necessary information that it needs to determine the nature and content of the website and then adds the data to the search engine’s index. Search engine spiders and robots follow links from one website to a further so that it can consistently and infinitely gather the necessary information. The ultimate goal of search engine spiders and robots is to compile a comprehensive and valuable database that can deliver the most relevant results to the search queries of visitors. But how exactly do search engine spiders and robots work? The total process starts when a web page is sent to a search engine for submission. The submitted URL is added to the queue of websites that will be visited by the search engine spider. Submissions can be optional though because most spiders will be able to find the content in a web page if other websites link to the page. This is the reason why it is a excellent thought to build reciprocal links with other website. By enhancing the link popularity of your website and getting links from other sites that have the same topic as your website. When the search engine spider robot visits the website, it checks if there is an existing robots.txt file. The file tells the robot which areas of the site are off limits to its probe – like certain directories that have no use for search engines. All search engine bots look for this text file so it is a excellent thought to place one even if it is blank. The robots list and store all of the links found on a page and they follow each link to its destination website or page. The robots then submit all of this information to the search engine, which in turn compiles the data expected from all the bots and builds the search engine database. This part of the process by now has the intervention of search engine engineers who write the algorithms employed in evaluating and scoring the information that the search engine bots compiled. The moment all of the information is added to the search engine database this information is by now made available to search engine visitors who are making search queries in the search engine.

Domain Name Selling Why it Shouldn’t Work
Friday, December 4th, 2009You’ve probably seen domain names for sale for ridiculous amounts of cash. Reckon those names will lead to surefire online success? Previous to you get tempted to buy one of those names, read this article.
One of the most appealing phenomena on the Internet is the selling of domain names. In some situations it could even be likened to an auction-based system. There was a time in the nineties that it reached ridiculous proportions, with several people becoming millionaires from selling domain names.
Why are these names so expensive? Who are the buyers? Does domain name selling really backfire sometimes? In what situations has it paid off? A lot of these questions have no clear cut answers, as long as the world has rotated; people have bought and sold “everything,” literally. Domain name selling would be consigned to a scam if it was examined closely.
Most of the names that go for extremely high prices (for this topic anything above a hundred dollars is considered extremely high) are domain names that contain key words that are in demand. Some of the domain names are really category names. That’s all very well and excellent so far. But when these practices favor the seller over the buyer, then a touch has gone incorrect with the equation.
Most of my grumbling against domain name reselling stems from the view that, from a branding perspective, it is a failure. Reasonably a number of SEO proponents argue that having key words in the domain name is excellent (a touch I have never agreed with) but the real issue is, the name alone does not make excellent SEO. If it is excellent to have the key word in the domain name, why wasn’t Monster simply called Job seekers?
I will be using as allusion an brilliant book by Al and Laura Ries, “The Eleven Immutable Laws of Internet Branding.” Al Ries considers domain names so vital that he uses up two of his eleven laws on how to name your web site. But why am I bothering to bash a perfectly “undisruptive” practice? First, because it seems to be catching on in SEO circles; and second, it will certainly add useless expenditure to the cost of domain name registration and hosting, making it relevant to any one who is thinking of buying that attractive domain name. By the end of this article, you should be able to go through the mental exercise of coming up with an original name of your own.
In branding the most vital choice you can make is what to call your product, in this case your web site. This concept seems to have positive the buying of “key word rich” domain names. A excellent translation of the phrase “key word rich” is “generic.” Your SEO expert and you webmaster will probably advise you to name a site which fits that description.
Sadly, most of these domain names are pretty dreadful; they lack thoughts, and a lot of them just copy a description (common adjective) or a class (common noun) and turn it into a name (proper adjective or noun). Yet they are sold for ridiculously high prices; reckon www.desktop.com, www.mortgage.com, www.womenonline.com, www.seopro.com, www.etoys.com, and I am sure you reckon, what fantastic names! Well, all disastrous in the first dot com bust; their names did not help them survive the varying tides.
In Alexa’s current top ranking web sites, it will be appealing to note that there are no common adjective nor common noun website names (the kind of names that are most commonly sold). All websites that are listed as top sites are proper nouns. In any listing of top brands there are no generic brand names (common adjectives or common nouns), yet unsuspecting buyer after buyer is sucked into the mental trap that all it takes for a web site to achieve success is a generic name.
The lure of getting generic domain names is positive by some SEO practitioners and is also a product of the herd mentality; SEO “experts” in all their wisdom tout key word rich domain names as elemental for high ranking in the SERPs. The key word effect is negated by the fact that hundreds of sites jump on the key word rich name band wagon. The herd mentality is due to the fact that “everybody is doing it, so it must make significance,” without checking the real reason other webmasters buys up generic domain names.
The herd mentality stretches back to the first dot com boom and bust, when hundreds of websites went for generic names like www.shoes.com, www.cars.com and other common adjectives. This trend has carried on to the second Internet boom (and inevitable bust) despite all the indicators that it can be counterproductive at most terrible and indifferent at best. Personally the only reason I would use a generic name on a website is so as to take advantage of the current “herd mentality” and jack up the resale value.
Have you ever looked for a site you found once, didn’t bookmark or note down, and didn’t find it again? No topic how many key words you typed into the various search engines, you just couldn’t find it? Why didn’t you simply type the name into the address bar? You couldn’t remember it. Why couldn’t you remember it? It was too long, too dull, too generic or all three. The majority of names that are sold have these faults. They are really forgettable.
Buying names because they have generic key words makes it hard for web surfers to form a mental association between the name and your site. People find it simpler to remember weird and off the beaten path names than they do common place terms and names. Everybody knows how to type in Google.com, but you may as well forget it if you are called search_engine.com — or is it searchengine.net? Or rather searchengineinfo.org? The mistakes that would arise from misspellings of your name would probably get searchers to a further page completely different from one on your website.
Consider www.sexproject.com, www.sex_info.com, www.sexinfo.com, and www.sexinfo101.com. Unfortunately I can’t remember any of them over any period of time; there are so many variations that it is virtually impossible for any of them to register in the mind of any searcher that is typing frankly into the address bar. It would take a miracle, literally, for any of these web sites to make an instant impression based on their name alone.
The same cannot be said for www.clickz.com. Compare the name clicks to such websites as www.searchenginewatch.com or www.searchengineland.com (don’t forget that there is still www.searchenginenews.com) and take it for granted that search engine anything in a domain name is sure to be for sale for over a thousand dollars minimum, and to what end? To join the hundreds of sites jostling for sandbox positions in the SERPs? All the above have generic terms in their name, and all the rest with such terms in their names will be viewed as excellent buys. But isn’t there a mix up somewhere?
When buying a site that has a prior reputation and a prior standing in the market for particular key words (for example Developer shed buying up http://www.seochat.com/ or Google is buying www.jotspot.com) the buyer is really buying the brand. No topic how cluttered the domain name is with key words, what is relevant is the way the site is identified in the minds of its searchers. Before I forget, the number of surfers is usually counted by using either registered users or daily number of page views.
Now let’s look at the usual situation where a buyer, simply because s/he believes that a domain name is “key word rich” (my translation is generic), buys that domain name from a pioneer for a hundred times the original price or even more. With no real thought of what to do next to get the domain name into the minds of users, apart from hoping they will type it into the address bar, such a go is sure to be counterproductive.
A further situation is one that arises when buyers buy a domain name hoping to cash in on a further site’s popularity. For example, buying a domain name such as www.my_yahoofinance.net to cash in on a successful brands name is probably copyright infringement. It’s frequently phishers, scammers and also some MFA sites, who participate in this particular type of domain name buying.
Others buy names which closely approximate standard brands to take advantage of misspellings by users (like the user won’t notice). There is a massive difference between the air force of www.technorati.com and www.technocrati.com. Of course if you just want a Made for Ad Significance site (or worse, if you are really a scammer) these names are all well and excellent. But if you are serious about building a serious long term Internet presence, you may as well forget it.
A recent high profile case occurred between Google and adult search engine Booble. Google sued the adult search engine for “aiming to deceive” with its look-alike domain name. Google’s case ultimately disastrous, but other situations may not end up the same way. Companies are not worried to defend their copyrights, and the results may not permanently be pleasant for the infringing company depending on how that jury interprets the situation.
Here are some ridiculous fees that were paid for “hot” domain names that finished up as spectacular failures (note that at buy most of these domain names were just that, “domain names”). The name www.business.com was bought for 7.5 million dollars, www.wine.com was bought $3 million, and www.wallstreet.com was bought for $1.3 million. All disastrous as websites (unimaginable, huh?). Fortunately, those times have finished. Now such domain names are “reasonably” priced to tempt the average webmaster. I mean $1500 is a measly amount to pay for http://www.quickloans.com/ right? Incorrect, it will probably fail in as spectacular a manner as those in the first dot com boom.
Over and over again, the most successful brands on and off the net have been proper names. AOL and Yahoo! were the first Internet brands to break into Interbrand’s top hundred lists. The most successful Internet brands produced their domain names using basic rules of naming which work for every naming situation.
Yes, some people are much better at naming things (and websites) than others. Over time we will look at these situations and see how best to come up with a domain name that should work, and not cost you anything more than $15 (at the most). Previous to then, next time you see that “must have” domain name for sale, take a deep breath and consider finding an alternative.
